Laptops weird problem

one of my workplace friend got a compaq lappy

but today he told me that...
while he plug in a headset with mic

still sound output is thr at the internal built in spkr

how this can happen..

i havent been able to give him any soln
 
yeah.. hed probably mixing up the headphone and mic slots.. putting the wrong socket in the wrong place.. also try using another set of headphones/ headset..
 
^^If hes getting sound from both, the headphones as well as speaker of lappy,I would suspect some problem with audio drivers! Which Operating System is he on ?
 
maybe the wires connecting the 3.5mm jack are cut, so the lappy cannot sense the headset.

in that case the laptop is at fault.

I had a similar problem in Ubuntu and the culprit in my case was the sound driver! Thats why I was asking which OS he is using..In any case,try looking for a different (new or old) driver for the sound card!
