About last week I had a weird problem on my comp. Some sites were not opening (and i was sure they were not down), rest all worked fine. Websites+internet download manager (IDM) + utorrent. if a particular site didn't open, it did not open on any of the 4 browsers I have.
i searched around internet and tried some ideas. like netsh and other commands. including flushdns etc.
then one day, I was not able to use any browser except firefox! and in that too many sites were not opening, notably google and yahoo.
then i went and changed the dns server address and sites started opening in firefox. But still the other browsers do not open any sites, tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but same problem. also am unable to update Avast! but still able to use IDM and utorrent.
Please help me!
Win7 ultimate, Opera, firefox, safari, chrome.
.
EDIT: just checked, getting "hostname not found" and "No such host is known" in Utorrent. [DHT], [Local Peer Discovery] & [Peer Exchange] show as working and can download from those. but the trackers are not connected.
EDIT: unable to ping any websites from command prompt. still able to access same website on firefox. writing "ping www.google.com" in command prompt.
EDIT: Firewall on or off makes no difference.
