Ha!
So i bought an iphone today locked with Airtel from iStore. I paid 31k for it. They asked me if I wanted them to activate or I would prefer to activate it at home. I went with the home option. So i connect my iPhone to iTunes and the process continues. I activated my phone and my sim was working fine. I even got an sms saying 'Airtel Live Services' are now activated on my phone.
I figured let me take advantage of my free 500mb free usage data plan which Airtel is giving to any iPhone user opting to go with them.
So i searched, googled on how to activate this and nothing turned up.Everything said to call their help desk. After breaking my head with Airtel, finally i got a supervisor :
His exact answer as to why I am unable to get Edge working or free data plan :
' Sir you actually bought the iPhone from iStore instead of Airtel retail outlet, if you would have bought it from us, we would then give you the free data usage but since you didn't, we can't provide you with this service'
I was like wtf ? How does it matter from where I buy it ? as long as its locked with Airtel and I am using their services i should be getting the free service. I looked at T&C of the company regarding this and nothing was mentioned as to where to buy it from. Also it should be noted that Airtel provides Hardware support and not Apple Inc or Apple India meaning if your phone conks off, Airtel will be fixing it and not Apple. [ This is confirmed ]
I find this weird and stupid. Tomorrow I will be dropping at one of the Airtel Service centers to see whats happening with their service and why this rigidity.
