Storage Solutions Western Digital 320GB HDD problem

Hi,
I have purchased a WD 320GB.Wen I was installing OS on the drive it showed me , that the size is 309 GB and now when I have completed the installation of windows, In my computer I appears as 298 GB are free (With only windows XP installed)

Is this normal or some fault with the drive.
P.S: The drive is NTFS formatted
