Review: Western Digital Passport 120 GB 2.5inch Portable Drive
Hey guys today I was on a hunt for a portable solution to shift my download’s to my laptop and was in the market looking for a external hard drive.
I had a few options in my mind:
A – Seagate Free Agent – 120 GB – 4200 Rs.
B – Hitachi / Wd Laptop HDD + Transcend Casing – 3250 Rs + 700 Rs.
C – WD Passport – 3600 Rs.
I opted for the cheapest option, I could have saved a little more by going for the laptop hard disk along with a cheap 150 Rs casing but I preferred the WD passport.
[BREAK=Specifications, Dimensions, Design]
I had clicked some snaps , but I am not able to upload them as of now some problem with VISTA not detecting my phone for some reason as of now. Well I took the snaps from the net that is why which I am posting here.
Here are the specifications and dimensions of the drive
Performance Specifications
Serial Transfer Rate
USB 2.0
Serial Bus Transfer Rate (USB 2.0) 480 Mbits/s (Max)
Physical Specifications
Capacity 120 GB
Interface USB 2.0
Physical Dimensions
English
Height 0.590 Inches (Max)
Length 5.110 Inches (Max)
Width 3.14 Inches (+/- 0.010 inch)
Weight 0.23 Pounds
The drive looks all sleek with a nice glossy finish but is very prone to fingerprints. Overall it looks all nice drive to be with.
[BREAK=Benchmarks Thoughts & Conclusion]
Here is the benchmark on HD TUNE .
The drive as you see goes at a fairly nice average transfer rate of 32.6 Mb/sec which is quite satisfying for a USB 2.0 drive.
The wd drive is a nice package over all. At a very good price compared to its competition it offers great value for money. Bundled with a USB cable which is very short and does not come along with any carrying case are the only drawbacks in the entire deal.
The drive comes preloaded with WD SYNC which is a nice utility for back up and has 128 bit password encryption option also.
