Some days back i installed a AGP 8X Zebronics 6200TC 256MB DDR2 Graphic card on my neighbours pc, MSI 915, 2.8Ghz.

Everythings working fair enough but the moment you try to play Video/Movie file from HDD or DVD/CD, in any player[VLC,WMP,WINAMP,K-LITE etc], the systems slows down like hell, the cpu usage is 100% and the player says OPENING the file. Then only way to escape is to restart the pc.

All games work superb but then why is there problem with videos?

Tried installing latest drivers, direct x, motherboard drivers and re-inst XP, disbaled onboard video and did all sorts of BIOS tweaks bt nothing helped.

Have no problem with On-Board video.

Is there any sure-shot reason and ofcourse, a wise answer for this issue??

Just try installed card on other pc then see what happens if same thing it must be gpu problem.

do some benchmark on gpu

a simple format (preferably with repartitioning) should solve most issues.

srry u ave alrdy dun dat, try repartitioning and installing another OS (eg: Vista). Then check.

hmm well...try to find out which process is sucking the CPU when u open a video...that is hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and check in processes. i guess that would be the first logical step...

Try revertin back to older/newer Nvidia drivers....

lol ... wuts repartitioning got to do with the prob ... you could try fresh installing xp if nothing else works ... although I think it may be a DirectShow issue but then VLC should have been able to run it

IMO either the rig has some virus/trojan/spyware or it has some troubles with the drivers....frsh install XP and the drivers and then check if the problem still persists

My cousin had that issue and it turned out that the drivers that came with the gfx card was having problems. downgraded it to the prior version and it worked fine. By the way it can also be a gfx card issue ( My friend ended up chucking his gfx card coz of this issue) And as for using the task manager and finding out the process, its useless coz the computer does not even respond to any command once this happens ( i dunno what u have but he had a 3200+) so, check for other versions of drivers (it may not necessarily be latest ones ) or try to use that card in other comp and see if it has any probs

sometimes virus etc can be at a lvl where u need ter repartition the damn things, it can help sometimes.

ahaan? tht means ki if i repartition de damn things, they'll get scattered all over me hdds... nd die a real painfull solw death??

Ive had this issue too. Though I did all possible Virus scans but nothing helped. Do some benchmarks, super PI and some stuff, that'll at least let you determine if its just the video thats unstable. Moreover, commands do work, but you have to be really patient hitting ctrl+shift+esc will open the task manager in about 5 minutes. In my case it was the system processes taking 99% of the CPU down its throat. The issue was not due to anything but an overheating Seagate drive

Oh yeah FYI there are not AGP 8X 6200 'TC' available. What you have is a 6200 TC PCI-E

For your info he is talking about partition viruses which resides in areas outside the actual partitions reserved for the partition info. A simple format of the partitions will not remove these kind of viruses and you will need to remove the partitions themselves to get rid of such viruses. I had experience with two such viruses a long time back in 1997. Even AV in thoses times were incapable of cleaning such viruses though they were detected. How ever I do not see how a virus attack can be related to this issue.
