(3) Spare Parts availability - after sale service
(4) Charging station coverage
(5) Plug compatibility at the charging station


(6) Govt policy to quitely hike your domestic electricity meter unit price, by changing your status to semi comercial.... Because they will lose a significant amount in discount road tax / reg charge in the name of green Ev's promotion just like developed country's offering...... Plus the revenue from fuel consumption.... They can't let this go, they will expand their arm, put inside your pocket / money bag and pick up the money.....

(7) Expert‘s already predicted - Country like India where majority of electricity produced from fosil fuel - Mass EV Adoption is just distant dream.

ola scooter is basically etergo scooter since the etergo company was bought by ola last year. they changed the scooter removable battery to non removable one. thats the only thing I didnt like. after 7~8 years when the battery eventually gets degraded, It would have been nice to have the option of returning the battery and buying a new one, getting back the original range and also cutting down on e waste

its good man since petrol prices are going up, we might see more electric vehicles in few years

I suggest you to wait out the hype. There are so many unknowns as of now.
1) how's the after sale service like ?
2) spare parts and more as listed by @dissel
And I also read in a few forums and reddit that ,Ola is thinking about a subscription model too .
So as I said, too many unknowns , so don't prebook , wait out the hype.

My Only concern for the fixed battery is what about those who stay on a higher floor
how will they charge scooters?

Charging at Ola station in a city like Mumbai will be a complete mess

Simple one scooter looks good with higher mileage and removable battery. but infrastructure would be an issue for them

I was looking forward to it but the lack of removable battery put me off. I guess only the Hero-Gogoro collab will be a decent one with a removable battery, that is if you can get past its quirky looks.
TBH I'm behind anything that puts Honda and its shi**y Activas off our roads.

You can install solar power plant at your home and not only power your own house, but also your scooter.

Too many variables involved especially if you live in societies where it can be a nightmare to get permission from secretaries. Not to mention, the vagaries associated with sunlight given our vast geographical expanse. These things also needs to be looked into. A plant just for a scooter would do fine as it won't need that much space to set up, the power requirements will also be low.
It could hold good if you have your own plot, little variation wrt sunlight and good service availability.

I have been contemplating replacing my existing scooter with Ola or Ather. I find these electric scooters are more of a delicate toy/mobile device than serving their purpose.

It appears these manufacturers are trying to carve out a niche by selling them as lifestyle products than a practical scooters. Keeping after-sale service, replaceable battery, etc aside. None of these electric scooters meets my requirements below.

- I trash my scooter, it takes abuse every day on Bangalore roads, be it foot deep potholes or flooded roads. It.just.works.
- I don't want some software to dictate my riding. If I want to go fast, I cant sit in the middle of the road to enable some wrap drive for an extra XX kmph.
- I park outdoors under the harsh sun, rains, dust, or covered parking space for weeks, a couple of kicks, and am off.
- Lug heavy luggage with a pillion.
- Ride to my hometown on a full tank without range anxiety.

Nailed it. Been averse to getting an ICE powered vehicle. Looking at how delicate these vehicles are, it would be better off to wait and watch for atleast 2-3 years before they become tough and more suitable to Indian roads.
I do think that within 3-4 years with good RnD, they genuinely can match the ICE scooters and even surpass them. There needs to be incentives, more importantly charging points. Having the same with petrol refilling points can be a good option after considering the safety.

Can someone explain why the suspension in the models from Okinawa, Heo electric are so stiff? Is it just cheap parts or suspension made for existing petrol scooters (higher kerb weight) are directly fitted in lightweight electric models?

Considering the current charging infrastructure, I think 2 wheelers make more sense than cars in the EV space. I haven't lived in big metros etc, so my local runabout won't be more than 10kms or so, so I wouldn't even need to charge one daily. I am even contemplating getting a EV vehicle for delivery services, once I get to that stage in my business. Many people who do intra-city deliveries have shifted to electric 3/4 wheelers for the same purposes.

I wish better companies step in to provide electric scooters...I have always been wary about dealing with ola because of their non-existent support and third class policies in terms of caring for customers..

all the above was applicable to 200-400 rupee rides, so I shudder to think the headache I will have to go through if I buy a vehicle from them and have to rely on them for providing after sales support and service.

I am not convinced that ola is not just a money grabbing company that doesn't care for its customers. Hopefully I am proven wrong and then I should be willing to buy a scooter from them.

I'm thinking out loud here, why don't manufacturers just put the EV parts instead of ICE in the same vehicle chassis. For example put electric motor and battery in Honda Activa chassis, it'll have all the durability of current ICE Activa. Will this not be as cost effective?

TATA did same thing with Nexon EV (of course there were changes in internal structure but overall the car looks the same and even has same safety ratings).

Going by the laziness of HMSI, that's probably what the Activa/Dio/Grazia electric is going to look like. Burgman electric is another example where the test mule has been seen in the same avatar as the ICE one.

The frame is simply not suited to accommodate the motor and battery. For example, fitting a battery where you have the fuel tank. Batterys' are much, much heavier and cause imbalance while riding.

AFAIK, both OLA and Ather are using the footboard as a battery for a better center of gravity.

Unfortunately that is what is going to happen. Instead, I would've preferred they do a completely new, radical design. But that isn't going to happen instantly, because companies would be scared of the product failing due to a sudden radical design change. This will happen slowly and gradually though where more emphasis is given on function and then we will see truly EV designs come out.
