My friend wants to get a camera for regular use (non-professional). Does not have any specifications but only budget. But after talking to him from experience (I have a Canon S2IS), we have come up with a list of specs. Budget is strictly fixed at less than 16K
1. Need a wide angle rather than those tele prosumers. I have a S2 and even though it's a great camera in all ways, it's a let down when clicking those family function photographs inside the house. I would trade it with a wide angle (<24mm at least) any day
2. We need a camera which has manual controls too so that he can learn experimenting and maybe upgrading to a DSLR after 2-3 yrs. Any cam having Av/Tv/Manual mode would be fine for this.
3. It should have optical image stabilization (not the ones which call high ISOs as IS)
4. Less noise at high ISO + good low light shooting
5. Face recognition would be nice.
