Hey guyz what do u think about this ...??

Parking and Congestion Charges

I mean there are many roads in Mumbai where in only half the available space is usable cause of illegal parking of trucks vans cars etc..Congestion Charges slapped on these vehicles

Congestion charges would ensure that lesser(slightly, even a small diff will give a big respite) people will use the road at any given point of time.

During peak rush hours it is a big menace, conjestion charges might reduce the pain during peak hours.

These charges can be relaxed during non peak hours...I dont see any other means of reducing the traffic woes, with TATA's 1 lakh car traffic-threat looming someone has to take a bold step.

The city of dreams .....is turning into a nightmare for Petrol Heads :(

how about stopping new cars from being registered all over india for a period of five years?? no more new cars = less congestion

u mean kicking companies out of india?????

what they pay to stars, govt etc comes frm selling cars......its impossible.....

I guess making underground parking compulsory in new buildings...since boom going on can help...it can help both society and govt in money......but govt jus wanted to create new taxes and fool ppl.....

Also forgot to add stop giving license stuff for taxi+autos...i know some kaamwalis who keep buyings new autos and keep givin on rent......know 1 who has 5 autos...and give peda when they buy every new one

they should make public transport mandatory for employed servicemen.

that should take care of all the traffic jams .

And is there enough capacity left in our public transport system these days?
Sure its one of the best connected city in India, but hey we are pushing our limits.

These taxes wont help at all.
I know plenty of people who will simply shell of 50 bucks to park their cars in P&P. So what if they are charged congestion charge, that kind of money does not make much of a dent into higher middle class of Mumbai these days. They simply dont care.
The only way to get traffic under control is to better our road system, take out the signal out of picture from known busy intersections and built passing flyovers there. and underground or multi level parking is not must.

Nothing else can be practically implemented unless public themselves decide to change which is not easily possible.

I dont see respite from all this unless a solid alternative like Metro is completed. Then like Delhi some people will actually dump the cars and move to public transport. And take my world only metro wont be enough for mumbai. We need radical thinking and changes in infrastructure to make it a better city. And unfortunately the people in charge aren't bright/qualified enough, neither do they employ qualified people for improvement and future planning.
Make a cell/agency of qualified experts, MBAs for city planning. Will take 10 more years for it to actually giving out proper results but if this does not happen we have a big problem which is like a bubble ready to burst.

God no. All they will do is demand a few lakh rupees for not knowing a damned thing.

Well it has to happen. Make it like a corporate world. Give the returns or be ready for sack. Unless overwhelming talent that exists today is employed by the Government for our benefits we wont see any improvement. So what if he is paid 1L rupees to do a job which wont be done properly by even 10 people otherwise?

A money well spent is money earned.

In mumbai road development proceeds at snail's pace .............so no point trying having more fly overs ..........they will make our lives more painful till they complete.

Something that can be done instantly is reducing the number of people travelling during peak hours...so if i know that the buses and rickshaw charge less at 7.30Am than at 8.30AM i would not mind leaving early for work....those who can afford it would be able to have a less painful experience.

But the main menace still are the road side parked vehicles ..........they just don't get the point......they are clogging the roads.....someone needs to stand up.

Well same was case with the WE highway. The 2 years when the work was in full flow were nightmares to travel on that route. but now it has reduced the traveling time to city.
The new link road which extends right upto dahisar is also complete now. Took soo many years. but thats now excellent alternative to S.V.Road.
These things take time.
There is no quick fix for this problem. There simply are too many people and too many vehicles to even find a quick fix.
There are not enough public parking places to park the car. Obviously people will have to park by road side.
Sure year or two will be hell for us if govt decides to plan intersection bypass flyovers. But end result will be worth the pain.
Quick fix is never a solution for big metros, and in Mumbai nothing is gonna diminish the no of cars on roads or road side parking unless new alternate public transport system in operational and big parking plazas are reality.

Govt doesnt care much.....Again the world bank sanctioned loan for easterm side(santacruz-chembur )link road...havent started yet..and on papers u see now deadline as 2009.....recently during my visit to this area...except 1 watchmen i didnt found even a child labour working for this bridge......all vote bank politics and shit goin on.....

Now on all project should be given to private agency......even though its relaince atleast some work will happen
