Forum Feedback What do you want from the newsletter ?

First of all, sorry guys for putting up this thread so late . Anyway, with the very first issue of the TE Newsletter up ,we want to hear from you . Suggestions, contributions , complaints and feedback . Anything and everything

Some of the key areas we want your feedback is on:

1.with respect to the newsletter,what kind of a TE user are you ?

a) i know whats happening ,i dont need a newwsletter.

b) i visit the forums,but still like the idea.

c) i dont visit the forums, so it helps.

2.Do you like the present html ,or do you want plain text newsletters as well ?

heavy on graphics,well yes .more pleasant for the eye .defintely ! 8 ) .If anyone has trouble viewing the mail with graphics, please let us know.

3.Do you want any user showcases .

eg : particular users blog.

particular users rig / or desktop or an 'interview' maybe ?!

we could have a 'general interview with x' or 'what x thinks of ' so and so .

4.topics ,content prefered

do you want the latest from each section or just the hotest few topics picked up from the forums.mix of both ,or say a certain amount of content,say a page ?

5.Misc. Feedback

Any other feedback ,and suggestions ,contributions you can make.

eg: - a budding cartoonist cud make a bimonthly comic strip

- come up an interesting links from the web which we can incorporate

- submit 'news from your city' like lan tourny's ,exhibitions,etc that might be useful

- etc etc...free your mind !

Well, I am just typing what I feel here .

The newsletter is noting much. I thought you will be giving links to some of the hot topics on TE.

But you have not mentioned any article as such on TE. You have just said that you are starting the newsletter.

I dont know whether it is because this was the first edition or what.

But again to be honest, I dont need a newsletter. I visit TE everyday more than once.

But seeing from the point of a busy person who is not able to visit regularly, you could have links to the important, new hot topics of the week.

Like maybe for next week, you could have links to the ATI Cat 5.13 release, the consolidated Xbox 360 reviews thread, etc... things like that.

And have another link to go DIRECTLY to the Latest Technology News page. The viewer can click on any topic he chooses.

And maybe links to some of the stickys. Like the AMD desktop processors and the Hardware Prices thread(though this thread is somewhat outdated now. It is better to have alink directly to the price list page of TE).

Something like that.

Just my opinion. Coz at the moment, I feel that the TE newsletter is not of any use. Not even to people who dont visit regularly.

Mainly I think there should be links to some new topics and a brief description abt that and if the person is interested, he click on a link and it takes him to TE.

This is my view,

1. The n/l should be targeted for individuals who dont log onto everyday.

2. Gist of all the latest happenings in IT world should be the main emphasis.

3. Purpose of the n/l is to make the reader comeback to TE for details on anything they find interesting.

4. The n/l should keep in mind the novice user, the info should be enuf for him to keep in touch with latest tech trends.

5. All the forum related content should be just be a part of the n/l, too much emphasis should not be given to TE members or their views, i.e. it should be tech neutral.

6. Finally it should cover all the areas of the IT fold.

just wanted to mention

1) 1st newsletter was more to inform people and long lost members of te. so it was very general

2) Newsletter can be subscribed even by non members via portal..so target group is not just existing members but a bit more

i liked the idea of news latter for persons like me who are working and sometimes can not log on this is a good option.

one suggestion though,
i received the first newsletter and it was nicely composed but i would like it to be fitted in one screen i mean to say its width should be fit in one window so that i do not have to do horizontal scrolling. vertical scroling is fine .

hot topics of forums with sneak preview or glimpse..
small clippings of all sections..
tech news
a member area, or something where this user showcases type thing can be shown..this can be disabled by users if want, or not allowed to non-members etc..
and its better the users to be allowed to choose wat all they need in the newsletter, like in yahoo subscription thingy.. u can choose on which all subjects the newsletter shud concentrate on.. i dono whether this is posssible.. say, i dont want much gamin news or market news.. n all, instead i like news on general sections more.

I would like plain text news letters, cause the HTML version takes too long to download on my 56k thru POP3

Yeah, that would be cool. You could have an interview of an exceptional user or admin every month. You could also feature users' websites, like maybe having a top 5 user made websites would be nice.

4.topics ,content prefered
I would like to see some interesting topics that have been neglected on the forums for some reason but should have received better response. Also, the hottest news from the forums/portal should be included in the letter.

5.Misc. Feedback
You could have a review of the month, gadget of the month, PC component of the month or something along these lines. Also, you could announce in teh newsletter the winners of the design contests and other contests running on the forums.
