Hia again:ohyeah: ...
Building a game rig:hap5: , and I need advice regarding which hard disks to buy...:ashamed:
Basically I need two or three hard disks....

One small and fast (less than or around 300GB) for the OS,
and one or two (around 750GB) for data.

One thing which Im sure is... I will never put data in the OS drive. i.e., will not have music, movie, photos, in the small OS drive (but of course, I will INSTALL games and apps in that drive). coz, I will b playing with the OS, I cant risk data loss (had a bad experience of losing 1 year of photos while installing a second OS):( . Thats why.

My queries are...
1. Should I partition my OS drive if its around, say, 300GB or use it as a WHOLE...? If I partition it to 'C' and 'D', for example , and, if I install games in 'D' drive, will my games run as fast as 'C' installation.

2.For the OS drive, I thought of 150GB velociraptor, but, people here say its no VFM... So, help me choose a OS drive which is faster, but, not so costly like velociraptor.

My budget is 5K for the OS drive and 5 to 6K for the data drives each...

The specs I have planned are:
ASUS P5Q-PRO
Quad core Q6600 or any other gud deal as prices r expected to com down any day...
GSkill Pi black DDR2 4GB ram'
Palit HD 4870 1GB card
a 24 inch monitor
750TX corsair
HAF 932
copperhead and lycosa

To Moderators: I started a thread about velociraptor + 1TB drive... but, I think this thread is quite different from that one. Thats y, Ive started a new thread. I u feel Im spammin... bear with me... and, u can very well merge t threads...:)

1- Yes, its better if you do a partition cause its always safe to do that. If by any chance it gets bad clusters or virus in 1 partition then the rest will be safe.

2- You can get a Seagate 320 GB for around 2.2 or 2.4 k more or less OR go for Western Digital 320 GB for around 2.3k. And for your other data storing hard disk i think you can go for Seagate or Western Digital 750 GB for around 4.7 k.

9.5k?? :S Are they overcharging?

Get 2 hard drives. Primary one either Velociraptor or a 250 GB Seagate 7200.11 or 320 GB WD. Secondary one get the 1 TB Seagate 7200.11 - Its fast and cheap - Rs 6700 or so.

^ +1... Yeah... same question hanging around me also... seeing all those 7200.11 drives getting busted due to a f/w prob gives me creeps! If its within a couple of weeks, mayb I can wait and plunge into 7200.12;)
