What is it with AIRTEL now?

I am on the Explore 1099 Plan of Airtel & I am getting few calls from customer care to change my plan to Swift 1099 / Turbo 1299 since last 2 weeks...

They told me all the usual's that these plans offer. But for both these plans they are promising that after six months the speed will be moved to 1Mbps UL. They also bragged that there will be no download limit for these plans & even after six months (when the speed moves to 1Mbps)...
Also they are promoting that these new plans have call charges reduced & are now being charged flat 1 paisa per second for AIRTEL Network calls while its 1.2 paisa per second for other networks (Land-line + Mobile)...

Now I understand land-line calls to cost more & its not recommended to move to 1 paisa regime... Calls to mobile will be cheaper since its already Re. 1/min...
Anyway its the 1Mbps part which got me confusing. Are we to believe that AIRTEL might bring up 1Mbps plans below Rs. 999/- or are they really offering this to a selected few. Did anybody else got these calls.. I argued with them that why is there a condition of six months. I am a customer for more than six years now so I should get the upgraded 1Mbps speed on my existing 1099/- plan. but they refused..

So its a big gamble. If I move to Swift 1099/- My speeds will be reduced to 512kbps (24x7) but I may get 1Mbps (24x7) after six months, If Airtel introduce these upgraded speeds for everyone then there is no point upgrading now... Also whats the guarantee...

If they are so enthusiastic then ask them to confirm this via a e-mail(including unlimited downloads), then you can move on.. Though chances are that after 6 months new 1mbps connection would cost nearly same. Even now they have introduced new 1mbps(full time, FUPPed?) for 1399/- in some areas, I guess.

Well wait and watch better to shift when it official. Dont take risk just like that.

^^... Even I am not inclined to move to the new plans. I do not trust them & I believe this is a ploy to move the existing users to FUP plans. My current plan does not have FUP..

So I guess its better wait & watch...

hence, they want you to move away from it

I had got the same call and guess what? The 1Mbps plan for 1399 has an FUP of 25GB after which it halves the speed. So don't fall for it. The first time even I was very tempted and had almost said yes to the plan without thinking. Later on I checked the website and confirmed with CC and there were no 1Mbps plans without FUP.

very confused seeing this plan coz swift 1099 has an limit of 20gb during day time:huh:

^... I think this may be the most clear information given out by AIRTEL... We all had our assumptions & it was really confusing regarding FUP & its implementation across all new plans...

Needless to say that this will serve as proof of AIRTEL idiocy & actual ground realities with AIRTEL plans..

I've decided to stick to my Explore 1099 as recommended by all since its not FUP'ed in my circle & deep down I do believe that they want all Explore 1099 customers to come under FUP regime... If they do bring some real 1Mbps plans in next six months then I will reconsider moving to them
By the way since last two days my speeds are stuck @ 1.3Mbps. 24x7 so I am enjoying it till it lasts.. :hap2:

I'm using swift 1099(512 kbps UL d/w 24/7) for d past 5 months now. but dont now what 2 do now coz 1mbps looks more tempting but day limit 20gb is a turn off.
 
This is the reply I got from Airtel, they sent me this image file for all UNLIMITED plans airtel offers.

New definition of UNLIMITED: The flow of a given commodity throttled by the will of another person at a distant location

 
also wanted to know that does airtel automatically upgrade your plans like mtnl i.e. from next month mtnl users wud be directly upgraded to the respective speed it is offering.

eg if u used 2 pay 749 for 384 kbps now u wud b directly upgraded 2 719 kbps for same amount. Does airtel also do that??????

No, not unless you ask them to.

Otherwise they could do the reverse as well and you would not be pleased.
 
i am on the 1699 plan and the speeds i get is 2 Mbps and there is no FUP till now , i have dloaded more than 100 gb for the last 2 months
 
^.. FUP is not in all circles yet but they are bringing more & more customers under FUP regime. (the way I see it)
 
6 months? WTF???

MTNL has already unleashed 1MBPS UL for 999.

I'm on 512KBPS UL from AIRTEL @ facking 1099, AIRTEL, gimme SPEED!

thanks for the info... im happy with 512 kbps UL. I thought they might put me in the new plan wid 20gb limit..(swift1099)
thinking of switching to MTNL but the problem is that they dont good customer support...
