What is OTG (On-The-Go) ??

I have seen many MP4 players having OTG functionality which mean (USB) On the go. But i fail to understand what does this functionality actually mean ?
Can anyone clarify my doubt ? :ashamed:

assume i have a OTG enabled device and i have a pen drive with music on it.. i can plug the pd into the OTG enabled device and transfer/play music directly

So i need to ensure that MP4 player i buy (whenever) should have OTG function so that i can attach my HDD/Pen dive to it
