Hi guys ,

I m planning to buy a new LCD monitor > 19 inch.
I will then attach my external TV tuner card to it. We have tried similar setup for our 19 inch CRT monitor and it worked very well. for speakers we have connected a speaker to usb cord of ps2(these speaker get electricity using usb cord).
also set resolution to 1024*768 .
This setup is working well for our environment.

But i little doubtful about replacing CRT with LCD > 19 inch as i think i will need to buy a separate TV tuner card for LCD monitor.(This is what the shopkeeper told me while buying the tv tuner card for CRT monitor).
I would also like to know when a LCD monitor can be turned to watch anything using tv tuner why there are people buying normal tv with expensive price tag ?

people buy expensive TV's as they have bigger screens,tv tuners inbuilt, come with alot more ports, etc

Ps2 gfx is greatly low. The bigger the screen the bigger pixelization you will see on the screen. So play it one the tv.
both the screens he used were 19' so where did the question of bigger screen come up

So play it one the tv.

1UP to that, PS2 output resolution is 640x480, exactly the output of CRT TVs. So you'll get the best experience on a decent size D+CRT rather than a much higher resolution LCD.

something similar the shopkeeper told me when i was buying the TV tuner for my pc.... although i wanted a USB TV tuner and bought one finally.........

but at first he asked me whether i want it for LCD or CRT...... i am little confused about this as both the monitors have VGA port...... as long as TV Tuner box supports VGA output it should work........right???

normally yeah

but the refresh rate's and other thing are different of old and new screens so it would lag, thats why he would have asked

My question is still not answered .Shall i buy a big size lcd tv or monitor for playing ps2?

What size should i go for?

its your choice what you want to buy

you can go for a 32' TV which can also be used as a monitor as all TV's come with HDMI and VGA ports

i would suggest 42I TV for future compatibility if you buy PS3 or play blu-rays,etc.even PS2 games will play on it but they might look like stretched out but not si much that you can't play

What if i buy 32' LCD monitor as my primary goal is gaming. i m less concern about tv.
Which brand should i go for?
What will be the quality of picture?
How much will be the price?

i wasn't mentioning the bigger size for TV,just that if you ever consider going for a PS3 or watching blu-ray or other things the bigger screen will give you a bigger experience

32' is great as well, nothing bad about it just that the bigger scale you are able to experience the better

best brands are sony, phlips, sharp but all of them are a bit pricey

lg,samsung are one of the best and give you the experience for a lower price

for 32' it would be anywhere from 25-35k

A 32 inch LCD Monitor would be ridiculously high priced commodity. I think a 27" Dell monitor itself was retailing for around 40 grand in the Dealer Paradise section. Check with Vijay (Buygamingstuff) and see if he has a price estimate for a 32" Dell monitor.

Dude yeah ur right, but u know its priced that high cause it is more than HD, its super HD!! (2560 x 1440)

LOL! It's that costly because it's an IPS panel. Those resolutions are pretty common for any monitor above 24".

LOL it is not costly because of the IPS panel. You can get IPS panels for as cheap as 13k upwards (talking of the U2311H here btw). There are a whole lot of aspects which makes the 27" and 30" LCDs very expensive - for one they offer a plethora of inputs from a display port to HDMI to dual DVI and the usual analog inputs (component video and composite video), the color gamut is very high compared to other entry level IPS panels, they go through very stringent QC checks, they have a better replacement policy (in terms of the number of dead pixels which may occur) and the panel is sourced from a better OEM. Those are some I can recall off the top of my head - there could be many more!

Needless to say this LCD is not suited for the average home user due to the cost. They find uses for photo/video editing/management and other applications which require the very best color reproduction.

Btw there are 26", 28", 30" and 32" LCD monitors with the 1920 x 1080/1200 resolution.

^Cost varies from 18k and upwards and most of them aren't available in the country. Your best bet would be a cheap 19" LCD for the PS2 and probably better when you switch to a PS3.

Will playing ps2 make sense?
No, it won't. PS2 was made for standard definition Televisions. Even though it has widescreen support & progressive scan features for some games, it doesn't really translate into crisp visuals which you would get on a regular CRT TV. The games which don't support widescreen will have screen stretching and the image quality would be completely washed out. A larger screen size would result in further degradation. Trust me, I have a friend who gave up playing the PS2 games on his 42 inch Plasma.
