its a wifi adapter.. you hook it up on desktop systems that do not have inbuilt Wifi. these are selling well because people are switching to wireless routers in their homes for internet broadband connections, and the desktop computers that people even buy today do not have wifi by default like the laptops..

so you can basically plug it in your usb port, and get connected to the internet or just create a home wireless network..

and this one you are looking at has only b and g band functionality.. if you are planning to buy one, i will recommend buying one with the N band if its available at not too exorbitant prices..

and please buy a reputed brand.. dont go for crap stuff like iball.. you've got DLink, cisco, cisco linksys, belkin.. even Netgear is fine..

asus buffalo too.. but dont buy crap brands like iball, enter, techcom, intex, frontech.. etc. etc..
 
great... and no.. you cant share your mobile internet connection until and unless you've got wifi on your phone and a software which can create an access point.. such softwares are easily available for android, iOS, symbian etc.. .
 
^^^^ theres no need to install any 3rd party software. we can easily share an internet connection using the settings given in windows. the only thing with a software will be that it will provide a nobrainer method of sharing the connection.
