I currently own a 250 GB transcend store jet mobile external HDD which i had purchased for 4200 last year in august. Now i need a second external HDD. Please suggest which one should i go for ??
Would it be wise to go for a 320 GB or 500 GB one ???
I have seen that when we jump from the bracket of 320 to 500, the price skyrockets and the price per GB increases substantially.
Also let me know which brand would be good. I am satisfied with my current one but would like to go for another brand now.
I have the options of

Seagate Freeagent portable
WD passport
Transcend storejet (like my current one)
Hitachi (some white in color..looks smaller than others)
local brands (which i would not prefer as data ka sawaal hai)

I got a Transcend 320 GB for 2900 3-4 months back when we used t have 15% or rs 750 (whichever is less) off coupon from eBay . IMO 320 GB is best bang for the buck .

Seagate freeagent will set you back by about 6200 for 500 Gb, but VFM wise 320 is currently better.

Guys suggest something as i need to buy this HDD this weekend. Also preferable give the best price for each so i can accordingly negotiate with the shop kepeer here. And yes i would be going for a 320 GB one as 500 GB are way to expensive and the price per GB increases.

You would be buying in China na? How would it help if you know the prices in India? Won't there be some difference between the prices here and there?

actually speaking not...when it comes to branded stuff China is on par or worse than India. Thats why if you say the cost is 3600 rupees for a Transcend 320 Gb HDD then i can convert them into RMB (around 500 in this case) and accordingly i will know the threshold till which i can bargain with the folks here. Because here when they see a non-local person they quote ridiculous prices which are like 30 to 40% more than actual value.

For eg: When we went to buy a wifi router we already did our homework with the pricing. First we went to the best buy store here and it has the tag of 280 RMB for the router and no you cannot bargain here for obvious reasons.

Then we headed to the electronics mall and people there were starting the rates at 200 RMB. Finally we got the router for 125 RMB after sensing that no one was going below this. We almost saved half on the cost.

It is the ebay of china and it lists the transcend 320GB at 620 RMB which i suppose is expensive compared to Indian prices

1 RMB = 7 Rs around

Oh no just checked it has dropped to 6.86..my god i will make losses now (in terms of income) :@

Guys...i think i will go for the western digital passport 320 GB HDD. Am i making the correct decision ?

Anyone personally using it please let me know.

Is it anyway superior / inferior over the Transcend storejet ?
