What is your First internet Memory ?

Remembering good old VSNL dial up days, back in 1998, when I bought my Pentium I with 8 MB of SIS graphics.

WoW. Some have really funny memories.

Ok. So i started with 14400 bps connection from MTNL. Well my father opened the first page for me. It was rediff.com >:p

My first page ofcourse was se*.com which ofcourse didnt open. So i bunked next days school to find out what the fuss was all about. With my face all warm, i concluded you cant put a persons clothed pic on the internet and see them naked. Yah, that was exactly what the senior boys of my society were discussing. I6iots !!

First song - O Jaane Jigar - Yeh Hai Jalwa

First net friend - A delhi girl who i still talk to :p -- from Yahoo chat - "teen love" room ;-)

First software - Winamp.

Thats all the first things i can remember about internet hitting my life....

Still remember the first time on the internet, with school friends,in a cyber cafe, late 90s,first site I ever saw was hotmail which was still the thing back then, next of course we paid our darshan to babaji.Countless hours were spent playing Doom,Wolf, nfs and on yahoo chat.

it looks like our BABA was so popular in those days. :D
1999. Satyam + Baba = Endless calls to that internet guy to remove that baba site from history. :bleh:

first visit to the cyber cafe was to open an e-mail account so i could chat to dad who was in hyderabad for a training(STD calls were very expensive in those days)...i still remember usa.net was the most popular e-mail site during those days.

First internet was mantra online from bharti which we got free from our computer guy who assembled our old p4 pc.
That connection was notorious for reducing the available time without actually using it.
Then came in the time with caltiger.com which was fast only in the mornings till 8am.
Then shifted to vsnl for the night free internet .
After two or more years shifted to roltanet. Then mtnl and tata reliance and mtnl.
My first memory was surfing the playboy for the pic of the day. :ashamed:
was ignorant at that time until google helped me. :D.

Hmmm mine was of a particular site where i was dloading wallpapers of hrithik roshan in kahoo na pyaar hai...then realising JPEG is not supported on my 386 machine with Windows 3.1 :ashamed:

After the 386, I got a P3 500MHz machine, after which first memory was caltiger with conn speed of 50600kbps..which was unmatched, even paid dishnet was 33600 only

later I got a BSNL offer of a dedicated line for internet. Then got 8 1 month Sify unltd packs from Crazy Eddy :p which used to get exhaused in 15 days because of the earliest FUP of Satyam, Use more than 6 hours and one day of usage will be cut

Yea, I think the address given used to be @netaddress.com . That site was much better than the other options in those days, until of course it went paid. Just saw that they are still around, and still expect money for email :D

Man.....I remember sitting in cafes at Munirka. Was so much into it, that the cafe owner would close the shutter sleep inside -- and leave one machine on for me. Used to sit till 6 : 00 AM in the morning. Pay him for like 8-9H of surfing @ RS. 15.00. There was one run down shanty at Katwaria Sarai which charged 5/hour..! Ordering Pepsi/chai/wafers which would get added to the over all bill. Darn those early '00s years. What a life it was. Memories.

:)

1998 or 1999

Our School principal showed us how to connect to a network on a dial up to create a email account as as far as I remember it was in DOS and Windows 3.1

Was a very exciting day for me ... :)

Browsing maximonline back in the day(around 2001) was a late night stealth mission, thanks to stupid dialup sounds:p. I would download bunch of celebrity photos, zip them, rename the file as exe and store it in system folder :D
[EDIT]I just visited the site for old times sake and damn, its hauntingly similar as before except for fb and flash. Even saw some photos which i had in my collection.

At college, played sdfmud along side my friends. I remember few of them even flunked semester exams...i'm looking at you, chiron...hehe

exactly, i had my name @usa.net it seemd to cool those days :D the funny thing i remember is my first day at internet on my home PC, i was chatting to this girl and she ventually said lol, i didnt know what it means and i summed up it means love on line, i was so blush and thinking internet is way so cool, pehle din hi kudi fas gyi kamaal aa, i asked her if she really believes in lol, she said yes :D way back in 1998 memories on a celeron PC :D

One of my uncles was in Mexico when I was about 8. I used to type out emails to him in Notepad and my brother (7 years older than me) would connect to dial-up and send the e-mail as fast as he could and disconnect again. Ah! The good old days!

dad got his new laptop from office back in 99-2000

and the first thing i did was connecting it to the mtnl dial up line and then login on to cartoon network for free games ..remember playing a game where you needed to take snapshots of scooby doo.....it took almost 5-10 mins to open new pages

and then when daddy wasnt arnd..checking wwe.com for the results and the divas.

i remember when i first went to a cyber cafe.. i asked the guy to setup an email account for me, which i forgot about just after getting out of the cafe, and as the cafe was launched on that day, i was offered a free coffee but i denied, i was still a kid then..

more prominent memories include browsing the cartoon network site and getting frustrated by that never-ending shockwave player requirement which i was never able to install in the damn cafe and never got to play a single game.. also chatting with girls on yahoo, those were the golden days of indian chatting scene but i wasn't that mature to go forward after that step.

then i got a pc and started surfing the internet from home when i was in 10th standard, as i was a great fan of video games, and pron, my fav sites included namco, playstation and iss for stories..

also, in the same year, i once downloaded a video (read pron), and it added an adware-kind thing just beside the clock area and it showed some girls w/o any clothes everytime i started the pc or connected to the net, i was so scared at that time that i pulled all the wires and made a sketch of all the connections on the back side of the cabinet as i din't know the connections that well, and hid the whole system using a cloth..

only thing i was doing during those days was praying to god every night so that i don't get caught and kept on studying to convince my parents to keep the pc that way only till my boards were over, i got a good score in my boards and asked a friend to format my pc..

all ended well as the guy just started formatting w/o getting to the desktop and new windows w/o those girls residing was there now.. i was so happy that day and thanked my friend a many times..

PS: the story got pretty long but it still gives me goosebumps whenever i think about it

Ditto ! Not mexico, but USA here :p

That's when I learnt what Eagerly meant !! LOL I used to beg for the PS1 :D 1997-1998 I guess DAMN ! Great Times :D

First meeting with internet was when my senior showed me some porn at local cafe. I was too young, so I just got glimpse of it and went out of cabin making faces :p, I don't know what site it was.

After that, I used to visit sify iWay withh my friend. I remember using their 100Rs coupan for 5 hrs. All things we did was downloading softwares from 'pahzeddl', searching patched for gta vice city, downloading GPU drivers, visiting wwe,CN, website and downloading lot's of wallpapers.

Got BSNL 56kbps connection in 2003. First web-site opened was yahoo.com, second was google.com, and third was nytimes, to show to my dad.:p

Once I wanted to gift my friend video of Steven Gerrard on his B'day. Had kept computer on for whole day to download some 15MB of video file containing top 10 Gerrard Goals using Limewire.
