If someone has tried out ... What OS would suit on it a WIndows XP SP3 or Windows 7?

All I use it for is office work so want to keep it zippy as possible. Reading online seems both would be pretty much same on it plus XP supposedly would give better battery life....

Any other opinions?

Windows 7 will run quite well on this config. I'm not too sure about the battery life, but in my personal experience, Win 7 was as good and efficient in power management as XP.

It depends on what do you mean by office work if you just edit documents, emails and some basic stuff why not try Ubuntu or Ubuntu Netbook edition. I think the netbook edition should give you maximum battery life.

you are right... but then its a laptop tomorrow i leave dont want the new person scratching head n asking what the hell is it :)

with 1mb ram unbuntu wouldhave been ideal

Well, i would suggest you to go for either Ubuntu (Linux) or some other Linux os since they are basically very small and very fast or else go for Stripped version of Xp (tiny XP) or else go for Win 7 tiny Rev 02 (700 mb).

I have personally used win 7 tiny rev 02 on my laptop and it works wonders.

hey ! i have the exact smae configs on my laptop ! i use windows 7 succesfully !

but if you game on it then get windows xp as the ram is a little less !

since i game i upgraded my ram to 2gb and win 7 works a little better now with games running almost twice better !

so for common usage win 7 is the way to go :)

1 gig of RAM and no serious need, makes installing windows 7 a no-brainer.. power management system on Windows 7 is way better than Xp... XP supposedly gives better battery life because at idle XP uses much lesser RAM and CPU than Windows 7 but with Power Management options that windows 7 has, it actually is possible that Win 7 will give more battery life...

Boot up & shutdown times will be more than XP (sometimes noticeable), but during general work you won't even notice the lag...
