Beginner
I am going with
Intel i5 2400-10.5k
Intel DH67BL-B3-5.4k

I already have a
GTS 450 gpu

Now I have discovered I need RAM.
Please let me know what I should get to play all games.

Thanks.

You should go for Gskill Ripjaws 2X4GB 1333mhz-3.5k OR Corsair XMS3 2X4GB 1333mhz-3.5k,If you want 4GB ram then go for the same one's mentioned with 2X2GB 1333mhz-1.6k
Hope this helps.:)

it certainly does help, Jakob, thank you. But I am ignorant of the extra benefits of 8GB over 4GB. Given that i know virtually nothing about computers and software, but have inherited a computer with all the parts except mother board, cpu and ram, and want to play games, do i need 8GB?

Jakob, or anyone passing by, what's the difference between these two, since they are about the same price?

Gskill Ripjaws 2X2GB 1333mhz
Gskill RipjawsX 2X2GB 1600mhz

Are 4 GBs enough with the rig I have, to get the most out of it playing games?
Going in to Kolkata tomorrow, so need to decide today, any help much appreciated.

The difference between RipjawsX and Ripjaws is that RipjawsX have better and big heat spreaders compared to ripjaws,It gives better cooling and it can be overclocked,The price difference is there because of that reason and also cause it 1600mhz.I've suggested 1333mhz ram cause the Intel H67 mobo only supports till 1333mhz so either way if you get RipjawsX 1600mhz it'll underclock itself to run at 1333mhz.About memory if you have the budget you can go for 8GB otherwise 4GB is enough.

thanks Jakob, very clear and simple. 4GB @1333mhz seems adequate.

I'm good to go.

Intel i5 2400
Intel DH67BL-B3
GTS 450 gpu
Gskill Ripjaws 2X2GB 1333mhz

Much obliged.
Let the good times roll............

@muzza I will recommend that you put down some extra cash and go for a ~1600MHz module [and bump it x2], irrespective of Intel's maximum support for 1333MHz because --

Hope this helps. Cheerio!!

Thanks Alpha17, but I'm not in this for the long haul. A broken PC has dropped into my lap and I just want to have some fun and have a go at these games myself. I'm pretty sure 12 months will give me all the time I need to reach "been there, done that". No disrespect to dedicated gamers, if it wasn't for you all we wouldn't have games at all, but I think I'll be selling the whole rig and living with my simple laptop again by the time the more advanced chips come through.
