What should be my download speeds?

Yesterday i got a new internet plan-syscon- Day 4mbps night 8mbps.

So, accordingly in daytime download speeds i should get are 512kbps on 4mbps & night 1mbps on 8mbps.

But right now its 2:45am night and i just test the speeds to check & found it pretty confusing::S

Is the above one net surfing speed or download speed?:(

I tried downloading from almost many sites and getting speeds between 520kbps-560kbps but it should be something in range of 1mbps.

What do you guys say?
 
its still 4 Mbps while u should be getting 8 Mbps

1 mBps = 8mbps ... B= byte , b = bit .. dont make them look the same
in general , speeds when u actually download are in mBps/kBps while ones given by ISPs and speedtest are in mbps/kbps
 
What are the charges for there broadband ? I see its there in Borivali too..
 
You seem very confused.There is nothing like net speed and download speed.

Net speed is measured in two ways



1)In mbps which is megabits per second

2)In MBps which is megabyte per second

1 byte=8 bits so Speed in MBps=speed in mbps/8 and Speed in mbps=Speed in MBps * 8

When you check speed using any speed test and the speed advertised by ISP falls in first category ie mbps

And when you download files or torrent they make use of the second type to show the speed.

So when you are getting 4mbps in Speedtest that means you will get 4000/8=0.5MBps speed in while downloading.

In daytime for 4mbps i'm getting download speed of 400kbps and for night i'm getting just 550kbps.:@ Isnt it weird? :(
& in reality i should get 512kbps download in day and 1mbps at night.

In my 1Mbps connection I get around 100kBps with torrents and ~110kBps with direct http/ftp downloads. Theoretically I should be geting 128kBps but it is not so. The rest of the bandwidth is utilized for overheads/headers.

Practically you should get ~400kBps from a 4Mbps connection and 800kBps from an 8Mbps connection. If you are getting 550kBps at night then something is very wrong.
 
The plan was faulty as per the isp. Yeah it may sound more weird but this is what i got the excuse from their side. :P

So i shifted to another plan of 2mbps which's best than the previous 4/8mbps having stable speeds + night unlimited downloads. And dint pay them for the previous plan too.

in-short, saved money + saved pain = lots of gain:clap:

@raksrules: Who is you isp? you can contact them for similar situation.
