What to check before buying a used iphone 3g

hey guys im finally buying my self a iphone 3g. i would want you all to assist me with some pointers that i can keep in mind, before making my purchase.

its a software unlocked phone.!! and how do i check the phone, like how would i know if the phone has any problems or no.??

Mate...please let me know once you have bought the phone or share some tips with, i too am planning to buy one. My guess is you should see if the piece is cosmetically acceptable and later try making some call and see if its working fine.
