Market Feedback What to do if you get scammed (by God knows who) but seller says "shipping at buyer's risk" on the sale thread?

Even then they dis-assemble the phone and sell it for parts. They just never turn on that phone for a month or two, it will appear for 2-3 hours on 1 day (Find My) and gone.

So even iCloud activation lock fails. FIR does not help in such cases, personal experience

Yeah I presume. Thing is I bought it on someone's behalf so if I can't do any of the options above the onus will fall on me to cough up the amount. That's the issue on my side. Getting the phone will do me well than getting it refunded tbh since it will affect my local reputation too.

What would you do different if you had a second chance?

That is a hell of a lot of hassle to do someone a favour.

Something I learned is as a buyer you cannot ask enough questions. This may not be 100% scam-proof but that way you can sort out many of the blemishes/unnecessary doubts if you face it and will narrow down the source of the problem. Every consumer has the right. While I was fully aware of that, I didn't fear the worst. And someone posted a link of a unique tape. I think that will be helpful and whoever still want to screw around may have second thoughts.
So you can imagine my thought process that now I'm facing one. Hint: it's not peaceful.

What about insurance? Is that an option for you

And by how much does it increase the asking price.
No. I think the only insurance worth is life insurance or multi- 'lion worth products or companies. I honestly don't know about the insurance policy for electronics. Isn't it the same amount as declared value. I've requested a seller only once and that was many years ago which was worth around 2k if I remember correctly.

It means you don't play detective.

You file a claim and in theory receive your full amount.

Like I said don't know if the option exists for you. But yours is a problem that was solved long ago.

What % of total price you paid is 2k?

Even if you paid 20k for iPhone 11?

Its 10% more or you're out100%.

If risk is more than I would look for insurance.

what did the seller say to you about this?
He suspects it's the courier because (he can correct me if I'm wrong):
1. There was a delay of 1 day (day when the package was received by the office) or 2 days (till actual delivery happened). Regarding this, the courier office said the "bags" are sealed and tied till they can fulfill current orders and then open as per need and that it's their standard protocol (mainly because of multiple non-delivery factors like weather, understaffed etc). And that they will co-operate with the main office/relevant department and will proceed from there.
2. The package was allegedly tampered with on the box.

I will not give my opinion on this matter. I'll let the courier company handle the investigation (if they will actually do it).

I went to the office today and the office said I should formally file a complaint via the app which I did promptly but I haven't received a notification, I'm not sure why.

But admittedly and purely for transparency's sake I made one mistake, we didn't check and didn't compare the condition of the package when it was handed over to us at the office and the image of the package which the seller sent to me. Had we noticed anything off I could've refused the package saying it's been tampered with and that way the courier will also follow the protocol and send the package back to the shipper. This way the seller and Delhivery will sort out the issue amongst themselves and I will have an alibi and be free of any blame. This is my one mistake here. The excitement of receiving an iPhone (even if it's used) just threw away all the concerns and precautions I should've taken. My only saving grace here are the unboxing videos. Without those my arguments are gone and all these claims are a lost case.

So to all buyers I say guys, one cannot be careful enough with this. Please inspect everything possible during delivery especially with electronics and gadgets. It's a win it or lose it moment.

I don't know how insurance works but I agree that that's a logical advice. I'll take more care from now on though I've never been more hesitant to buy again, unless they are members who I've dealt with in the past.

Insurance doesn't work for used products. If any courier properly provides transit insurance for used products it'd be great.

Does anyone have any known reasonable service to determine the logged in apple id via a device serial number?

I wish i would have forgotten to remove the apple id and left the find my iphone enabled.
I was about to post that.
My advise for Apple device.
Seller should keep the FMIP ON and share the Apple ID and password with buyer. ( you may create temp. new apple ID and share ID&pass with buyer). Once seller ship the package he should put it in lost mode and lock with with 6 digit passcode from iCloud Portal so this way whenever theif insert the sim both the party get to know the location as well as status if it is being activated. If all goes smooth either party can remove the device from that Apple ID list and buyer will activate it with his own apple id.

PM me device serial will try to look up the info.

I don't see why used or not matters. You are insuring against a certain value.

If those are the terms then it's time to find someone else

Shiprocket dies provides insurance but for used products it declines outright even though it allows and sometimes even claims are accepted and completed.....don't know what's it with delhivery directly.

Thanks for this. But doesn't it need invoice? If not then I might have found a way to ship items which can be broken down into parts and ship them under ₹2499 value in order to get 100% full insurance claims. 20% is a huge drop!!

Which also reminds me, I've now understood the genuine concern of sellers who sent me insured packages at their own expense. They are few but I applaud them.

@iPwnz : Are your Unboxing videos in parts or is it one single long video without cuts with the camera recording the entire unboxing process?

I think if it's in parts it might not prove very useful no?

Thing is that making a successful claim is not an easy process. There is not a lot of info on how well Delhivery Protect works but check the DTDC equivalent. They simply stop responding to claims after some generic initial replies and you will usually have to take this all the way to the consumer court.

In the best scenario, it may work for lost packages but it will never work for in-transit swaps because it becomes a case of you vs them even with recorded videos as they can claim things were swapped after (while sending) or before (after receiving) the recording of the videos. Recording in front of their personnel is not feasible and if you do, you end up indicating to them what the actual content is, making it even more of a target.

Shiprocket insurance is pointless for used products. Even otherwise, the insurance is in the form of their credits and not INR, so you basically get stuck having to use them even more if you lose something.

It's in 4 parts (first is useless/unimportant as it's just showing the box, second was blurry cam so had to change it, but two main parts are in full). My phone has battery and port issue so I didn't want to risk using it but ended up using it anyway.
This was communicated with seller and courier said they will take them if required.

The thing is, seller and many here suspect the courier but courier said nothing happened after the bag reached here but if any criminal activity took place it would be prior to arriving here hence the need for internal investigation. They are cooperative so I'm just waiting.
Yep, quite pointless.
Credit notes?? No cash??

They are cooperative
They don't have any option as if they refuse you may straight heading to Police Station.
just ask them what was the weight of parcel when arrived/scan at their place.
If this company have automatics weight calculation & print same on slip than you might came to know about point where actual missing took place.
Did seller Declared actual product name & it's actual value at time of booking? do the Booking Slip have weight in print or they just type/write like 1 kg or 1 pack?
Which Courier Service use by seller and what service finally delivered at your place? are both same?
