I agree with u hp-india,removing battery and using might be risky but in my case my house is backed up by a inverter so no issues of power failures.I would recommend to use with out battery and turn off the screen in power management :D

@Party_Monger do not remove the battery out of the laptop while the laptop is charging..

Hmm okie..

Nah even at my place we have a backup inverter..that wont be a problem..

And besides i hav 2yrs complete cover left:D

Removing the battery would be a good option, but it will nullify the advantage of using a laptop.. Power cuts could corrupt/stop your downloads, and in the worst case scenario, would make your OS unstable due to improper shutdown.. I wouldn't risk that way, but you'll have to compromise somewhere. Either save the battery or save the OS/downloads or better still, use an UPS for the laptop too.. :P

i have used my compaq lap for past 1.5yrs almost 24X7....(work during the day adn as a download rig at night) i have used the notebook hardly a few times on its battery (maybe max 20 times), but when i checked a few days back the battery backup time had come down a lot!!!!hardly 20 mins of backup time!!!!guess all the heavy duty work/heat has killed the batt!!!!!now wht wud u guys say????

^^ Thats what I said.. you need to compromise somewhere. I'm sure my laptop battery gives me not more than 45 mins backup, after my constant abuse for the past 1.5 yrs. But it usually doesn't move from its place on my desk, so as of now I'm not much bothered about it. :P

Use the lappy.

You just need to know how to do the power management when on batteries. Like the brightness should go down by almost 50% and the screen should turn off after one minute and both wifi and bluetooth should stop on batteries.

^^^^ +1,desktop will make a more stable download rig.

1 vote for the desktop.

If you insist on the Laptop and the matchboxes do make sure to remove the matches from the matchboxes before you mount that bomb LOL! :ohyeah:

Im using my HP pavilion dv5118tx lappie for DLing for the past 2 years:) . works like a charm:D . no major issues. except, the battery one... backup on battery alone lasts hardly 1 hour. :(
But, I think, laptop, if u hav one, is t best.:cool2:

Also, consider a netbook like acer aspire one, which is selling for 15K now if u r planning to spend for a DL rig.;)

+1 for the laptop.

been using the laptop on wifi dloading on a 8Mbps connection for several hours a day (12-18hrs) Never ever had a problem.

So it seems that more number of people are inclined towards lappy. No as i said before, is it ok if i detach the battery from the laptop and use it only on power supply ? Will this ensure that my laptop battery will remain in good condition for longer period of time as no unnecessarily charging happens?
