I have a small room of around 750 sq.ft. Please suggest a speaker system that would be sufficient for a occasional movie with sorround sound and mostly music. I guess its better to go for optical input/output model's if i am not wrong ?
since my output will be mostly from the built in sound card from my laptop i guess the optical thing would be of no use.
is it true that music doesn't sound very good on 5.1" systems and better on 2.1" ?

please advice...
thanks

To fill the entire room of that size, most entry level bookshelves won't be enough.

You will either need to go for very powerful FS speakers 2.0 or a good 5.0 setup.

I would recommend you to go for powerful FS.

Sorry got my sq.ft wrong there.thats the whole place..i am BAD at this...
anywaz i need it for my really small 100 sq.ft room.

For 100 sq ft bookshelves are enough, and entry level FS would do if placed properly.

What is your budget?

Do you have a receiver? Do you want to buy one?

For a 10x10 room, u rather go with a stereo setup than 5.1. AE5 seems like a popular choice around here. Whats the budget mate? everything will depend on that..

don't have an AV receiver. budget around 6k.
thanks for the quick response..

For 6k, your best bet would probably be M Audio M20 or Swans 10.

Well, extend your budget and go for AE2 for 10k.

Thanks for the suggestions pal...so i guess those 5.1" creative or altec onces wudn't be good enough for me..

I have really developed liking for this Edifier C3. i can hang it up on wall and its got a wireless remote.

I would recommend sticking to 2.0 setups or at most 2.1 because they would give you much better performance.

If it has to be 5.1, then:

Altec Lansing

Philips

Edifier

And strictly NO to:

Creative

Logitech

Thanks for the suggestions "rite" i think i'll stick with 2.1" series...for now

The good 2.1's aint gonna come for 6k. Altec, logitech z-2300, klipsch promedia are all ard the 8k or more mark.

To me, the Artis speakers sound better than edifers. Dont remember the particular model but they make pretty good vfm speakers. You know fiio, quimpu etc also have 2.0 speakers. I suggest you do a bit of intl forum reading too for a different perspective since ur budget is pretty tight and options are slim.

Nothing wrong with 5.1 speakers too, i said stereo considering ur room size but since you aint gonna buy a good stero setup, why dont you consider 5.1's from altec lansing or logitech and enjoy ur movies to the fullest with the surround sound

Oh wait, u said laptop for output... chalk out 5.1 in that case mate

comp speakers don't need a receiver :)

right. But i am saving for a lcd tv combined with a yamaha av. i guess it should be enough for a surround 5.1" experience..its going to take some time though..

:)
for now my best bet wud be to connect a edifier or altec 2.1" to my laptop and be happy...
:)
