Well this is my question to all those who manage this community.

Whats going on?????????????
I wanted to post this for a couple of days but due to shortage of time couldnt do so. As i am gona be home due to hernia for few days i have some free time. So here goes.

I hope all people here agree that Techenclave is a community.

There was a new community formed a while ago Funenclave. And honestly i have no issues with that. But i aint interested in only fun community.
All was well even after that.

But why this sudden policy of strict tech talk on TE?
Hell even 90% of my posts are tech related, but why restrict TE this way. I can assure you no community is complete without a section where everything goes. IMHO all this looks like is to force people to turn to FE for any OT non technical talk. And i can distinctly remember that i was told this wont happen and this General talk is created for this purpose only.

Then why this sudden change in policy?
I know why 2 separate communities are formed. But why spoil a perfectly fine and healthy community this way to create or promote 1 more?
This is very very very bad sign IMHO for future of TE.
See all good , reputed and most imported successful communities are the one who accommodate all kind of members. Even if its tech community there is a need of a section where anything goes. People can just hang out, talk what they want not related to technology.
They shouldnt be forced to FE for that.
I am not saying that we need to follow in footsteps of other tech forums but take a hint for that.

Someone asked me why i am protesting silently on MSN personal message if i dont like whats happening so here it is. Posting this in feedback.

You guys wana keep promoting FE, fine. No objection to that. But dont hamper a healthy community in the hope of having 2 successful communities. 2 is not better than 1 in this regard.

Flames and stuff like that can be dealth with. Increase your manpower if you want to for that. There are plenty good, mature people out there if you are short on manpower to moderate.
Keep in mind, google ranking is not the only way to measure the success of community.

I just hope this is taken into right spirit, no disrespect meant for anyone.

i myself have never logged in to fe even once. but i used to read all the non tech posts that were made on te.

However on this point i would like to comment

Irrespective of what is done and is coming in future, there is no place for flaming and politics on TE. We have had enough and there are people of every faith here and getting more mods is not an answer to the problem. If someone starts anykind of thread to flame, he is facing a ban.
 
I'm with Funky on this, but my perspective varies a bit... right off the bat, it doesn't seem right because it took you guys a while to really make TE what it is. I've heard of TE from a friend in the US too, that's the brand you guys have built :)

Anyway, a short story that may apply to this situation... while working for a company a few years ago, they built this great ecommerce tool called "X"... "X" was all they marketed for a year, and in that time, the community started associating the company to the product (not vice versa) because the product was a big success.

Later, the company wanted to make more money so they split the product and create two great products, not retaining the original product's name in either. DISASTER STRUCK! Existing users didn't like the new products even though they were better, and new users who visited the site were looking for product "X" but never found it. Today, the company is still recovering from this decision and even though they brought product "X" back in the market, I don't think they'll see the same success again because they lost momentum in the first place.
 
Even I don't visit FE much. I would like any interesting discussions to be on TE. The jokes, movies reviews, and arcade is better left on FE.

Most tech sections are not as happening anymore, maybe coz all the pros are busy and I see TE Market's the only hyper active section these days!!:P

When i joined around a year back, TE was Rocking, at its peak IMHO and the kind of support and guidance i received from all was too overwhelming to be forgotten ever!!:)
I mean here is a super noob who is being advised by the baaps of TE who, i learnt over time, are very busy infact with day to day stuff!!:O
I named my rig 'TE Explorer' too!!:cool2:

The only time i went to FE was on inaugration to show my support to all dear members at TE and once when one bike related tech query was asked and that person asked me on msn too!!

Earlier, i would learn from few tech posts, then have a laugh over some AIDW posts, esp Masky's, then read some gen stuff, then back to Tech!!
I don't even spam in the Intro lounge these days!!:(

In fact some of my non TE pals liked the Gallery on a tech site and appreciated what i was doing- keeping myself busy with a Good, clean, WHOLESOME site- coz-
All work and no play makes Bikey a dull boy!!:ohyeah: :ashamed:

Consider this Final Clarification in this matter - and i speak on behalf of all the Staff :

Now i don't want to rebuke/correct any post in this thread line-by-line for the simple reason that we all are entitled to our opinions and at TE we value that.

The fact of the matter is we had decided a few days back that we would be allowing all off-topic & non-tech discussion in 'General Talk' section. As we have clearly stated in sub-text of General Talk section that 'Anything Under The Sun' goes - that literally should clear all your doubts on what kind of content would be allowed or not allowed. Only thing we expect from you guys in return is please do not post anything illegal or which does not conform to existing TE Rules.

And on the same note - let me also make it crystal clear, we are not going back to the Old TE ways, in essence what i mean is don't expect us to bring back now defunct TE sections like Gallery, Movie Reviews, Entertainment, High Stakes or the Jokers Club. All those sections are gone for good.

So, once again General Talk is a section where you can post anything within TE Rules. Also, we have reopened all the closed threads in that section.

We will not entertain any further posts/feedback on this matter. Mods are at liberty to close any such threads in future, without citing a reason.

PS: The changes were implemented at the time of this post - so Funky was unaware of them when he started this thread.

Update: Thread reopened - please feel free to carry out any discussion on the same.
 
But just a few days back Safin posted an announcement saying that ALL talk is not allowed on TE General Talk...he said it was for only tech related talk and birthdays and stuff....

That is what I am against....

Anyway looks like that rule has been revoked :hap2:

You guys have anyway disabled post count in the general talk section....so you wont have unnecessary spamming....and even if a little bit is there, the mods are there to take care of it....

And I agree with the part that movies, jokes, etc are better left on FE.....

My only other request or feedback is to do something abt the old chatterbits threads....they were extremely good (like the AIDW thread) and other stuff.....

Could you open the chatterbits section only for viewing ?? I mean, dont allow anyone to bump up old chatterbits threads.....dont allow anyone to post in them...but at least make them visible..... (provided you havent deleted them all....)
 
Oh, i need to clear this out- i casually mentioned the 'gallery' thing being liked by non tech type pals- i don't say i want it back!!:cool2:
jokes, arcade, movies left out ok too!!
Chatterbits was good- esp some threads like- 'what airconditioner to buy' or something like that!!:ashamed:
Aah!! nostalgia.:)

And fellows without going into technical details, please note that te is first a tech site and then anything else. While some of you may like gallery, when we had that for first time, i had all sorts of complaints about why we have a bikini gallery here on TE. Try to look at things from other person's point of view also. What you like may not be liked by another guy. Or by the guy who comes to TE as a first time user. And to the person who said "google is not the only thing" :) yes it is not but for a site relying only and i repeat only on google for incoming traffic, it will get precedence over many things. And the changes you saw with split to FE and all were necessitated by those.

Some people will like OT/nickels some will hate them(i have complaints from guys who didn't want to have anything of nickels and tp stuff on TE.) Now when we take it off we have complaints that why we took them off. We can't please everyone. Just respect that.

As far as tech goes, we have plans to improve and add things here to make it an even more exclusive tech site.(well thats about all i will tell.. i told the rest of the staff about whats coming) Any change will take some time to digest. We can understand that. Just remember we have the good of TE in our hearts also :D(and not to xterminate it.)

I understand that dude..... so, just try to strike a balance.... and IMHO, that balance is one single section for non-tech talk....you have deleted the other stuff like Entertainment, movies, gallery, and so on.....

Ok seems to be the case that that announcement is creating confusion. Since creating that announcement, we have discussed this in staff and the announcement has been superseded with the new changes announced by dipdude above.
 
yes yes...... That is what I wanted....

What I was referring to were people who didnt want anything other than tech stuff on TE.,....

Anyway sorry for the confusion.... I am happy with TE the way it is now....
 
And guys.....chill......

The mods have done this for a reason.... I also got pissed with the latest announcement which is now null and void :D :D

But now that the General Talk has been opened for tru GENERAL TALK, it should be ok..... it will be like the old Chatterbits section on TE only thing is without post count :P

And earlier, TE was quite highly ranked in google searches for stuff like bhangra and jokes.....

And I heard that the admins used to get mails asking them for more jokes :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

And not to mention the political bashing and fights that used to go on..... That is one thing I agree completely with the admins..... those sort of posts (religion bashing especially) are not suitable for a tech site......

Now, those sort of political posts go to FE.... where I guiess the mods dont have a problem :P (of course, there is a limit :P )
 
You win some you lose some ... :) . I have kinda realized that FE had to be created because of too many off-topic things which were in TE .

I completely agree with Nikhil on this point .. very smart job , Safin :D :ohyeah:
 
Seems I missed the action ...I was out on a road trip to Coorg and never got a chance to read this announcement (whatever it was) :P

But now that apparently things are back on track , I am glad they are!

(On a side note, I do miss AIDW and similar threads though not the jokes/movie revus' etc, so here is a request, can we port that one thread (or other starrred threads from chetterbits back to General talk :)

Vaise I never even asked for the Movies thread..I just asked for AIDW, and other Starred threads in CHatterbits (though IIRC, AIDW was the only one! )

After all, a small Geek leg pulling fest neverhurt anyone ;)
 
Hmmm...I was very upset when this thread was closed with a post slyly suggesting "opinions appreciated" but Bang! Take that! Thread Closed! so much that I revoked my decision to go premium or have anything serious to do with this site apart from selfishly learning frm Tech posts sometimes...But seeing this thread open and that post disapear made me smile...

Thanks for letting us know you guys dont have the "take it or leave it" attitude.:)

But please do something to keep some noobs happy.

Good to see General talk liberated...Also please do enable post count for general talk.
