Whats the Advantage of having a symbian OS?

Hi,
I'll be buying a phone soon,and my budget is within 13K.I decided to buy nokia 5610, the revies seem good, but problem is its Series 40.I've seen various applications and games for the symbian OS, which makes me wonder why the 5610 have a series 40 OS.
So my question is whats the avantage/Disavantage of the Symbian OS. I know the speed is slow,Other than that?
Also do i go for a N73ME?i've decided against it because the max memory is 2GB against 4GB of 5610

Symbian is slow as it is a complete OS as opposed to s40 which is a dedicated piece of softwware that runs on proprietary nokia phones.

All i can think of of symbian vs s40 are only advantages (except speed maybe)

Also, IMHO you can use a 4GB card in a N73 (I use a 2GB card on a 6600 which officially only supports 128MB)

i've heard that if ya put more memory the phone becomes slower.is it true?btw was ur 6600 stable?
 
No problems with stability. As for the slowness, well, you have to keep the memory card organized (like sorting stuff into folders etc.).

Also, i allmost never use the default apps for filamanagement and picture viewing. I use fexplorer for accessing the file system and resco viewer for viewing pics. They work very smoothly and have infinitely better functionality than the default ones.
 
only advantage with S60 is more applications(because development of softwares is more for Symbian) . and you can multi task apps with Symbian. anyway S40 is for speed and is java based.
 
There are infinite benifits of S60..You jus need to keep using it to discover more and more..
i had my ngage for 4 yrs and i was like always prowling for applications..
And kept finding some AWESOME apps even after 3-4 years.
And now i hav N82..And I'm Lpving it!!!

Take it without thinking twice..

n73 is a real cool phone..If not you can try N81..
 
Symbian or for that matter any smartphone OS makes you a user in control.... I personally find the slight slowdown in performance a trade-off i could happily ignore. My N95 8GB or any other v9.2 s60 device is really only fractionally slower compared to "duh-so-dumb" S50 devices.... You would only have to use a symbian device, rather a S60 device to understand the how useful it can be, compared to S40.
 
games u will get even for s40
application not the same variety

if the basic music player bundled will keep u satisfied then well s40 aint a bad deal

but in case u want to have app which can do lot of stuff like read pdf or edit word document then s60 is the way to go....

in the end it comes down to individual preferance...
 
I agree. checked out N81 yesterday at a friends place. since the phone is fast, I didnt feel any slow down. S60 way to go :D
