What's the Best 16 GB USB Pen Drive with Best Transfer speeds Available in India with Warranty?

Was Primarily Thinking for a Corsair Flash Voyager GT 16GB Pen Drive,..but found it has some issues & Not that fast from a Normal 16gb Voyager drive & so it doesNOT make that sense to go for it!

** Will be mainly used to Transfer large HD video files & some .mp3 files to devices that directly play from it!

***So, Transfer/ WRITING speed is of High priority.

****Also to remind again, it should be available in INDIA with Best warranty coverage....heard many such drives failing too frequently currently!!!!

Now u all the experts here, plz help me to find one, which will work best for me!will be much thankful, if anybody replies here!

Re: What's the Best 16 GB USB Pen Drive with Best Transfer Speeds in India WithWarran

the USB performance also depends n the chipset servicing the usb interface.

i have always observed better speeds (double at times) with nV chipset compared to ati.

you may want to look into it before going forward with the purchase.

Re: What's the Best 16 GB USB Pen Drive with Best Transfer Speeds in India WithWarran

if that's an issue,i have the nV one....now what to get?....."if" corsair GT performance ain't that good ,how about the Patriot XT series or the OCZ Performance sticks?...

Re: What's the Best 16 GB USB Pen Drive with Best Transfer Speeds in India WithWarran

Hmmm.. there is a little problem with intended usage.

If you want fastest speed, then you need drive that is formatted FAT32... BUT, if you want to transfer large HD movies (4GB+), then you can't do that on FAT32. Then you'll have to format the drive in NTFS file-system. NTFS will allow you to transfer 4GB+ files on drive, but then speeds will go down compared to FAT32. Also, NTFS is journaling system, which means that wear and tear of your flash drive will increase, resulting in decreasing the overall life-span of your drive by a bit.

If transferring large HD files is your main priority then I suggest you for cheapest external USB based HDD from Seagate or WD. The transfer speeds won't match with fastest USB drives, but you get large drive space and no issues with wear and tear of drive.

Patriot now not officially available in India, Corsair GT & Sandisk Extreme are the fastest officially sold pendrives in India under fast data transfers.

Re: What's the Best 16 GB USB Pen Drive with Best Transfer Speeds in India WithWarran

Thanks iGO & amd. for the replies!

but igo, yes, what u r trying to say is true & i already know that!... but i do wonder, how good is the wear & tear of spinning mechanism of a external usb based hdd, whch is also prone to unforeseen failures, against a solid state usb pen drive which has NO moving parts!...& the issues like heat & noise generation that comes as complimentary with it...mayb tat' why i am seeking a pen drive instead of a usb external hdd drive(even at a MUCH MORE price per gb),which will always do the normal spin up & spin down job & thus equally detrimental to the durability aspect of the storage media!..mayb iam wrong in the thinking but it 's the same thinking which makes me believe that ssd hard drives are much reliable than the traditional hdd with the spinning discs!

..& bro amd 999, if its for the Patriot XT,i intend to have them through kmd or 20north!!!...india is still ouut of reach of may good brands! :(

Re: What's the Best 16 GB USB Pen Drive with Best Transfer Speeds in India WithWarran

^ Your point it true.... the spinning and mechanical parts are more prone to wear and tear compared to Flash storage. I just wanted to point out the common problem people run into with big capacity USB drives and filesystem. Many people buy big capacity drives for transferring large files and run into FAT32 vs NTFS and large files vs. speed advantage issue.

I still use my 5 year old 40gb external for transferring large (4GB+) files out of my network. I think despite all the spinning and moving, traditional HDDs are much more mature and solid technology. SSDs are awesome, but when it comes to sequential writing (which you require for moving large files) HDDs are still competitive. SSDs are in their own league of speed when you're reading or moving files from it.

As for Patriot... I personally own Patriot Xporter and damn that thing is faaaast. :ohyeah:

Re: What's the Best 16 GB USB Pen Drive with Best Transfer Speeds in India WithWarran

^^ the obvious questions now surely follows... :P
wat size patriots ?...r..i suppose they r the xt's!
when ,from whom & what price u got that for? (i suppose u r based in india)
..& finally, what sort of realistic "lightning Fast" speeds do u get in real world situations in file transfer( for single bigfiles like HD videos & collection of assorted small sized files like .mp3) & i can honestly expect to get?
* or any other issues over it ?

i now feel i didn't realise the potential to have a good talk with you on this issue..to get more genuine feedback than i expected!:P

.....hopefully,u will prove o b that good pal :)

Re: What's the Best 16 GB USB Pen Drive with Best Transfer Speeds in India WithWarran

only NAND based drives will be smaller in size, micro & pocket HDDs are based on hdds are mechanical devices.SSD type storage is also based on NAND technology and smaller NAND devices will soon appear on the market too.

Re: What's the Best 16 GB USB Pen Drive with Best Transfer Speeds in India WithWarran

Hi Techie#1... yes, I'm in India only... :).

The reasons I didn't specify anything more on my Patriot drive were 1) I didn't buy it in India 2) It's 8GB, not 16GB (since you mentioned you were looking for 16gb drive) and 3) I haven't done any subjective benchmark on my drive.

Now to elaborate on those...

1) I bought it from US, from newegg.com. I got a great deal on 8GB Xporter XT, about $22 (approx Rs. 1000 by general dollar rate conversion). After reading about it on couple of forums I decided to go for it.

2) I had Sandisk Cruzer 16GB U3 drive with me which I used regularly, for data transfer as well as portable app drive. That's the reason why I went with 8GB drive. I just wanted to use it as dedicated ready-boost drive under Windows 7. But two things happened, by the time my Xporter reached me, my Sandisk concked off and I got another great deal on Gskill 2GB DDR2 Pi sticks. So I decided to upgrade my ram and instead use Xporter as my primary USB drive as my Cruzer was dead.

3) Ideally, I get around 17-18mbps write speed while transferring data on drive (single large file) and about 14-15mbps while transferring large group of small files (photos, documents etc). While transferring files from my Xporter to system, I get speed around 36-39mbps, depending on where I'm dropping the files (I've three completely different HDDs in my system).

These numbers are from Windows Explorer's File Transfer dialog box, as I didn't run any benchmark suits to check the performance numbers etc. One reason is that I'm kind of wary of drive speed benchmarks as my Cruzer died when I was running a benchmark, so I'm still bit shaken to run any benchmark tools on my Xporter. :P

Regardless, I'm pretty happy with the speed, as I generally use it for my daily quick file transfers. Like I said earlier, I normally use my HDD to transfer 4GB+ files, so I'm running my Xporter on FAT32 only.

Also check HP v155w 16GB for Rs 1700/- with 2 year India warranty...I have one 8GB same model and I get avg. speed of 14MBPS...it's pretty fast and really small....

Re: What's the Best 16 GB USB Pen Drive with Best Transfer Speeds in India WithWarran

got a quote of Rs. 2,575/-(local shipping extra) from kmd.... what do u think guyys.. worth it a go ?
...& Thanks a LOT ..iGo, u really proved a GOOD pal! :)

Re: What's the Best 16 GB USB Pen Drive with Best Transfer Speeds in India WithWarran

for 16GB that cost seems pretty high to me, considering the factors I noted earlier, such as formatting the drive in NTFS (for large files) thus sacrificing the transfer speeds.

Then again, it's your call. :)
