What's the best Defrag program ?

Hey there guys,

It's been a while since I defragmented my 1 TB hdd, and now it seems to slow down my PC and movie play skips a little and copy paste takes a long time.

Also, whenever I access that 1 TB hdd, like copy/pasting, etc., even the mouse slows down and kinda skipps. My music also starts skipping :(

So am thinking of defragging it. What's the best defrag program out there ?

Thanx a lot in advance. Desperately waiting for a reply :)

@Ravipah: are you sure that can be sorted out with system defrag?

which OS you are using?

If you are using Win 7 hp and above then there is image feature.Useful that after installing OS & important software you create a system image.

The system slows down due to many factors like crap/trial softwares, crap in registry.

So,seek registry cleaner(like cc cleaner).

Defrag alone will not help. You need to clean up your registry as well. CC Cleaner is a good choice for registry cleanup and auslogics dics defrag is a good defrag software as well.

Hi,

Yeah am a tech savvy myself, so I know how to take care of my operating system, cleaning registries, deleting shadow leftover files, etc. Overall, my operating system is quite excellently managed :)

I am running Windows XP as my work prohibits me to upgrade to Win7 (stupid outdated company software :@).

Anyways, I downloaded SeaTools and diagnosed my HDD. It seems the "SMART" on this drive has "tripped" and it's also generated a warranty validation code, so I guess it's RMA time for this disk. It's a good thing am still able to access this HDD, albeit at ridiculously slow speeds, so I can backup my data :) But it's taking so long to take backup :( Last night, the whole night it only took backup of 30 gb :(

I have downloaded SpinRite, to see if it can somehow repair or at least speed it up a little bit so I can take backup :)

Lets see how it goes :)

Edit: By the way, how long does it take for Seagate India to RMA a drive ? I'll have to borrow an HDD from a friend for that time period so I can keep my backup.

in your case, defrag wont help. it clearly states its time for rma. Your disk is dying. Same happened to my 500gb seagate 3 months back, the smart got tripped bt still i was able to use the disk without any issues. Aafter 1.5 months gave it for rma and got it after 14days. :)

btw for now dont experiment with any tools, else you may even loose access to drive by doing something wrong. Let it take its own time for backup. If you force it by any means, it will certainly get damaged and may go undetectable finally!!
