I'm planning on picking up a TP series PSU and am having a hard time deciding which one to pick up. ITDepot has the TP 550 v2 and the TP 550 EPS models listed there. What's the difference? I've found out that the EPS model has some extra connector or something required by some boards. Is it worth the 700 bucks difference? I'm planning on picking up a PSU which would serve me for a while at least, so if it's worth it, I don't mind spending the extra 700 bucks. I'm using an A8N-E board. Will it have any problems with the EPS model? Someone kindly enlighten me!!

AFAIK, the EPS model has the same specs as the TP except it has adjustable rails in the back and a slightly dif cooling system. 2x80MM fans vs 1x 120MM

the TP 550W V2 is a dual rail psu, and so is the 550EPS V2.....but maybe that EPS ur looking at is not dual rail...which is really something you want.

If i were you i would just go for the regular 550W TPII

A8N-E doesn't have an EPS connector so stick with the normal model. EPS is an 8pin connector typically found on DFI Expert/Venus boards and also dual cpu boards.

What is this EPS used for??

I was considering the NeoHE since it's modular, but would the power cable reach the connector on the board in a P180 chassis?? I've currently got an SP400 whose power cable doesn't reach the connector on the board when in the P180. I had mailed Antec and they suggested the TP series. I'd prefer the NeoHE since it's modular. Less mess with the cables! :D

There is one more Antec power supply in the TP2 550w family - its the "Antec True Control 550 - Over clocking Power supply" it is listed in the theitdepot page @ 8180/- I wanted to buy this in Mumbai but it was not in stock at that time. This is the 550w power supply that has "User-adjustable, individual dedicated circuits for +3.3V, +5V and +12V outputs."

check this page for more info ...

^^The only diff between the Truecontrol and tp2 are the user adjustable rails. Otherwise they are exactly the same psus. User adjustable rails are useful only if u are running BH-5/CH-5 and have a board that feeds off the 3.3V rail for RAM and you need more voltage than that (DFI NF3 boards for example) or you wanna do the DFI NF4 jumper trick and avoid all the heat generated cos of the 4V jumper.

^^Eh... I dunno what that means! First of all EPS is 8pin. Secondly, the type of power circuitry has no binding to whether EPS connectors are present or not. Typically though, EPS connectors are present on all mobos with 4 phase and higher power regulators since thats the bare minimum that is needed for multiprocessor mobos.

yeah i agree with chaos.. EPS is 8 pin additional connector for dual proceesor boards that support EPS... it is additional power for the processor...

Ohh yeah, its 8-pin sorry my bad..

I remember reading somewhere that the newer mobos (A8N32, Expert, etc.) with 8-phase power design, have a greater stability with OC'ed processors when using the EPS connector.

^^A8N32 uses a normal 4pin connector. The P4 version uses an EPS connector. Its called P5ND2-SLI or something :P.
