Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA Hard Drives (WD1003FZEX)

Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA Hard Drives (WD1002FAEX)

wd 1002 is for 6.1k and offers 5 years warranty

wd1003 is for 5.8k and offers 3 year warranty

both are black so they should have 5 years warranty right ?

i was unable to find any more difference other than speed and temps on official site too

here are links for official sites
http://www.wdc.com/global/products/specs/?driveID=1346&language=1

http://www.wdc.com/global/products/specs/?driveID=792&language=1

can anyone give me some more info about the difference in between these 2 and which one i should go for ?

The above articles also state the apart from the speed differences, the new FZEX has several new features over the older FAEX series, namely stuff like HRC (High Resolution Controller), StableTrac Vibration Control Technology, Corruption Protection Technology (apparently limits the problems related to data loss during power failure or power loss to the hard drive) etc.

However being BLACK series drives, both come with 5 year Warranty. This is the clearly stated here with the FZEX mentioned as a 5 year warranty drive -

http://support.wdc.com/warranty/policy.asp

However they do add that there may be "regional specific warranty implications". Not sure if this implies different warranties for the same products for different regions or whether they simply mean region specific RMA procedures..

I would say go for the newer FZEX series.

Also, did you mean the link for the drive on ITDepot? That site lists it with the "3 year warranty" on top but if you read BELOW on the same page its mentioned as 5 years. Probably a typo? -

^Glad to help and congrats on your purchase. :)

One thing I don't get though - what do you guys USE such large drives for? Here I'm on an 80Gb drive and even then - 34Gb is FREE! :p

i'm having a 500gb from 4 years and now its all filled with my workout videos diet plans and family pics , only 100gb of movies and no songs all songs are motivation songs lol , the games :( now a days a single game is of 25+gb and then to install it, it needs more space :( so its being hard for me these days.

Deleted many games from storage but still now since 6 months, I'm installing a game playing it then deleting it and i have the habit of keeping 2-3 games installed of different types, Good for you that you are still with that hdd , how do you manage ??
