so i have flashed the buffalo wireless router to tomato firmware and increased my signal a little bit to 60 ... what else can it do ? make me some omelets? grow wings and flap around .... please let me know

^^ you did that because tomato is been too much talked about ?... before applying that firmware, did u make an effort to read what tomato is all about ?.. here read this if u dont know what tomato is all about..

Tomato Firmware | polarcloud.com

tomato is not created for fun's sake.. its created to juice out some more life from routers which lack feature but have good compliant hardware.. its just not for extra range.. lol

Eh ? The firmware wasnt made for increasing the signal, infact if you increase the signal it would lead to more noise. The firmware is appreciated by all because of its stability and added functionality like bandwidth monitoring, qos, saving logs, wds etc. If you think that tomato firmware is some kind of magic that can give you better range compared to the stock linksys firmware then you are wrong.

the only link that i went to a blog mentioned that i can increase the signal range and yeay i did ... from 42 to 60 because the other page said if i go above 70 it will lead to heat increase...so i was wondering whats the big deal of this firmware since many recommend it ...

You can do traffic shaping and convert you router into a wireless client bridge ad a few other things I don't know about for sure. But these 2 are functions that lots of people do need and use Tomato for.

If you try hard, you can even make it take your dog out for a walk.

But seriously, you should have read the information on the page before flashing. The best feature you can probably use are wireless client, and QoS access, which is not available in the original firmware

Its for all the dexters and dee dees of the world :P

Dexters: the guys who might actually have a use for them

Pretty decent answer, you'd be lucky to get one like this.

I also was under the impression the only thing 'great' about it was slightly longer range, and pretty reports.

well its stable now...the buffalo stuff suddenly used to give me a lot of disconnections and after moving to tomato is all good....i have no clue why would someone need reports ...

So did the range cross 500 miles?
