dont know bout the official launch.

but its been available here for quite sometime for 30k. after bargaining maybe 26-27k

dont know all that details. but so far all consoles in india have been sold unofficially except 360 which was launched some months back.

I don't think it'll ever be officially launch in India. Nintendo has never released a console in India, but still that doesn't mean India won't be getting them.

Its released for PAL regions, it should be available right now in dedicated game stores or in grey market.

It may never be officially released? I was not expecting that.

What will be the right time to buy Wii through grey market? I was expecting price to be less than 20K. It seems this is not the case at present.

I am in Delhi.

I was expecting the price to be less than 20K as well. Personally, I feel we shouldn't have to pay higher than 17.5K for the Wii.

How so? Nintendo has no foothold in India wheras MS and Sony do in the form of companies, showrooms, producers, distributors etc. Nintendo would have to invest many millions and many years to accomplish the same in India and I don't see the returns being worth such an effort. It's one of the disadvantages of being a game only company.

Ofcourse. Last time a company was in Nintendo's position and it failed worldwide, miserably, and that company is SEGA. It released its console officialy in India with full advertisement and a full fledged after-sales service, 2-3 years after that they discontinued DC soon after Ps2's launch and went back to game only developer.

And don't pay for Wii in India at least until it reaches 15-17k.

Haha, I was thinking about Sega the whole time while I was typing that post. I loved the contests though. Do you remember the price they were selling the Megadrive for?

oh yes, Sega Genesis, damn this console got eaten up by Snes even with the headstart it got, and looks like they hadn't learnt the lesson when they debuted DC in India for Rs.10,000!!

I was a huge Sega fan. Even more than I was a Nintendo fan so I was pretty upset over their exit from the hardware race, but after they ruined all of their great series in the past few years, I have managed to get over them.

Same here. But except that i'm a big DC fanatic till now (yes, at that point I would pray for Sony to DIE with their Ps2 and leave my DC alone!), memories....DC was the first TV console I ever owned, it felt great to not go to people's houses to play Nes and Ps1 anymore!

when the DC was launched, I remember seeing a full page ad in the newspaper and drooling.....

I wanted one so badly... Never got one though :(

^^And be happy that you didnt :P

nishant, you pointed out that sony and MS have the distribution network in india. yea sony does, but ms? they've been selling it through various outlets, computer shops, planet m, etc so why cant nintendo do the same?

That is there, but I think the main difference is the experience and knowledge that MS has in the India and they have already established themselves through their OS', various software and hardware. Pushing the X360 then wouldn't be such a big problem. For Nintendo however, it would be like entering an entirely new world.

Of course Nintendo could always just hire some advisors from India who could inform them of everything they need to know, but it all comes down to how much Nintendo can make back from investing so much in India and India still hasn't quite reached that level of interest in gaming so it's more likely that they'd lose more than they'd gain from officially launching it here.

Wii will be like 20k max even in grey. Games are gonna be a problem for those used to buying backed up copies for rs.100 a pop. Nintendo is known for their tough anti-piracy measures.
So 50$ a game (plus shipping) or Rs.2000-3000 per title.
