When should gamers upgrade?

Hi to all,
I wanted to get you guys' opinions about when Indian gamers should consider upgrading their systems. Personally, I dont think this is the right time to upgrade, becasue dx 10 is not out yet.

What do you guys thing? Some say that the dx 10 cards will not run the dx 9 games any faster. Infact, they say that the dx 10 cards will run the dx 9 games a bit slower than the dx9 cards.

Also, I guess we are going to need a minimum of 1GB to run Vista for gaming, or maybe even 2gb for vista.

If anyone have any opinions, please feel free to share.

Dont think anything below 2GB RAM first off.

Dual Core is a must now.

Well, a DX9 card, like the X1900XTX will run Future games on DX9 mode.
All the games coming out which are DX10, have a DX9 mode. So, theres no problem there. It depends how much you want to wait.
DX10 Cards, will render DX9 games fine. High end DX10 cards wil lbe better than High end DX9 cards, even in DX9 mode.

Time for you to upgrade?
Surely, Jan/Feb. Once DX10 is out. (Atleast according to me.)
 
If you are happy with your current config, wait till Dx10 games are out before you upgrade.Till then the price of conroe,mobo and ram will also come down so you can spend more on graphics card.

Dx10 cards will run dx9 games fine. Like others have suggested get 2gb ram min.

And finally there are Dx10 games(atleast quite a few of those releasing after 08 will run only on dx10 not dx9 graphics card).I don't believe its a nice idea to get a high end graphics card now unless you absolutely need it.

I currently have a 6600GT. You think this card will be decent enough till about 08? After 08, will no game run on the 6600GT at all?

Don't listen to these hardware gluttons. No matter when you buy a card you will cry abt it two months later. The rule of thumb is upgrade when you find that you can run most new games at decent specs(AA,AF,fps,resolution) at a decent cost. Check whether you can do that now. And try and estimate whether you can do that in jan/feb or whenever else they are suggesting.
