I need to buy a GSM modem for my final year project.

I would like to know somethings before buying it.

1. Which brand?
2. Cost? would ideally prefer which has high VFM
3. Where do i buy it from in lamington road?

In the street shops mostly they sell operator brand (airtel/aircel/reliance/idea) with lock.

ask them whether it is unlocked? use different brand sim and check.

you can not use other 2g/3g sim if it is locked.

get from ebay say Rs 1200-1400 for 7.2 mbps data card preferably Huawei ......http://goo.gl/OE2yb

forget CDMA propritory(simless) services like reliance netconnect/tata photon /MTS etc

Huawei E1732 @ ebay.in nice model, it's original idea locked but avaiable Unlocked with ebay.

AT Returns a "OK" to confirm that modem is working

AT+CREG? A "0,1" reply confirms your modem is connected to GSM network

AT+CSQ Indicates the signal strength, 31.99 is maximum.

AT+CMGF=1 To format SMS as a TEXT message

AT+CSCA="+xxxxx" Set your SMS center's number. Check with your provider.

To send a SMS, the AT command to use is AT+CMGS ..

AT+CMGS="+yyyyy" <Enter>

> Your SMS text message here <Ctrl-Z>

The "+yyyyy" is your receipent's mobile number. Next, we will look at receiving SMS via AT commands.

Could you provide a link if you purchased it online? If not, what was the price range where did you buy it from.
