Where does Win 7 updates gets stored?

Hi friends, as the titles says where does my Win 7 updates gets stored?? Are they stored as .exe files?? I want to know these because if I've to ever format Win 7, I'd like to keep backup of those updates so that I need not to download them again.

By googling it out, Igot that the updates the stored in %windir%/SoftwareDistribution/Download

But I'm seeing there are number of folders with alphanumerical names which may have got created by win itself. But I'm not finding any .exe files there.

Am I going rite??

Don't even try, you are wasting your time, better idea, make a note of installed updates, using the KB number download them and then integrate using DISM, if you need more help in using DISM and applying the updates

Try downloading the updates using WSUS Offline updater, wherein you can take copy of the files that you have dlded

Copies of windows are available from MSDN with free/paid license keys. i just wanted to know how far they work.do they stop working after a period of time>?

Updates are stored @ %windir%/SoftwareDistribution/Download | updates wud be stored as Files with a GUID value such as " 74ec5e6860edd35a99fd9312b13959efd7767a42 " --- you can open these files by using any Archive manager ( i used 7-zip ) to view and extract the content ....
