the dollar is more than rs50 these days. add the taxes. i dont think 25k is too much on those basis. there are obviously margins involved too.

but 25k for THAT phone, thats too expensive.

THAT phone ?
Its got:

3.2 inch Touch-Screen
528 MHz Proccy
192 MB RAM
3.2 MP Cam
GPS etc. etc.

Every high-specced phone is priced insanely high in the market these days. Considering that, $399 for a contract-free phone is freaking inexpensive.

Personally speaking, I have my eyes set on this one. if the price falls down further to $350 range, it would be definitely the best VFM phone in the market (Nokia's 5800 plain sucks IMO)

399 for that fugliness is a lot. lol..yeh, specs wise its ok, but looks and os? fine its android and ya its by google, but so what? it mite be great in the future. at the moment, its nothing great.

its true that the Android OS is yet not perfect...but second version/update is expected to simply rock the mobile OS world.....to which you will able to upgrade later on even if u buy this version....

and about ugly/fugly, its just a relative thing....iphone is what makes it look ugly...but in its own, its a good looking phone....and also, one has to go for this HTC phone only as no other phone has google android OS right now....and as far as i am concerned, i will be buying such a phone only for its OS which will give me endless possibilities and applications instead of locking me in like iphone....

btw, even this HTC phone is far better in terms of hardware and performance whether u compare it to iphone or any other phone in its segment......

price is an issue coming up from everybody.......yes....25 K is definitely costlier......

^ If you dont mind tweaking and waiting for the second update, then grab it, cause its a geek's delight! I would have certainly picked one up if I could afford it, not yet, unfortunately hehe.

ok even more exciting stuff....

China's Android Phone Here :

Another awesome Android Phone Here :

Android: Kogan Agora Pro is the Next Android Handset

And G1 Phone without any carrier lock in :

G1: SIM- and Hardware-Unlocked G1 Available to Developers (or You) for $400

i think its just the starting....

next logical step for me would be to wait for a month or two and wait for such Android Phones to be launched in India....

G1 handset is just the starting.....lot more to come it seems....

Yea..I was wondering the same..The thing I hate about chinese phones is the software that is used. If they start making phones with Android on them, I might be interested. Dreaming about an Android-based, Touchscreen, Chinese phone for 6-7k INR :P

However, there are things that might ruin the experience : Substandard Touch screens, a poor proccy and low RAM.

25k is actually a good price from Univercell. Google charges $225 to ship the unlocked developers phone to India. So the cost of the phone if you order from the Android market = $400 + $25 + $225 = $650

i agree with this to some extent....but best price would have been around 20 K-22K....

if someone may pass on to this to Univercell....

Android based Chinese phones are not the only future possibilities.....

Have read that Motorola is aggressively developing Android Based Phones.....

Google releases unlocked G1

Developers get a chance to play

Google has announced the release of a SIM and hardware unlocked version of the first Android smartphone, if you are a developer.

To get an Android Dev Phone 1, you'll first need to register as an Android developer on the Android Market site, which entails a one-time setup fee of $25. Then you will have to write a check for $399 and you can have one phone per developer account.

You can buy the gear from the U.S., U.K., Germany, Japan, India, Canada, France, Taiwan, Spain, Australia, Singapore, Switzerland, Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, Finland, Poland and Hungary.

Google says more areas will be possible later. It is hoping that developers will stick their pens to paper and write lots of new sexy apps that will wow the great unwashed.

Of course, it could also be bought by those who pretend to be developers and who want to get their paws on the unlocked phone.
