Hey,

I was thinking of buying a Gigabyte G31-S2L or a similar mobo in the 2k-3k range for my upcoming E7300/E7400. I want to be able to OC the proccy a bit and preferably get it above 3 GHz to some speed where it doesn't bottleneck my GPU. uday is running his E7300 @ 3.2GHz on G31-S2L . He says the board is pretty good.

Whats the current pricing for it? The cheapest I can find on ebay is around 2.6k - 2.7k, using some coupon.

At Lynx, I got

G31-S2L @ ~2.8k

P31-S3G @ ~3.5k

GA-EG31M-S2 @ ~2.8k <-- Whats the diff b/w this and G31-S2L ?

I also got G31-S2L @ Rs. 2620+225 at theitdepot.com

Any idea where I can source these in Cochin? Will they be cheaper locally? Are they available at any other online dealers on TE?

So to sum up.

1. Suggest me a good OC - capable mobo in the 2k-3k range with which I can run my E7300 or E7400 at a non-bottlenecking speed . The SATA slots shouldn't get blocked by dual slot card ( like in GA-EG31MF-S2 ). Are the ones I mention good?

2. Is the EG31M-S2 any better than G31-S2L ? It has some "Ultra Durable 2" tech.

3. What about P31? Is it worth the extra moolah? The P31 board I saw has some good pros:

* Its NEWER than G31

* A dual slot card would only block out a PCIe X4 slot which I probably wont use. And there is only a TINY chance of the card blocking out one of the SATA slots.

* PCIeX4 instead of PCIe X1 ( I prolly won't use them .. but who knows )

* Solid Caps

But it doesn't have Ultra Durable or the power saving thingy available in EG31M-S2. It also doesn't have on board gfx as a backup ( that is not much of a problem ).

4. Will they be cheaper locally? And are they available cheaper on any of the TE dealers? I would prefer being able to pay by CC. Where can I source these in Cochin?

I bought G31M-S2L for Rs 2400 ( all inclusive) from Computer Empire 3 days ago

Edit : Computer empire is a shop in Nehru Place, New Delhi

Thanks for the replies guys!

Does P31 have better OC features? About the "E" version, I read that its newer. Does the E version have the same OC features as the ordinary one?

BTW I saw this at Gigabyte's spec page for the P31 board

"Because of chipset limitations, when using FSB 1333 MHz CPU with populating all DIMM sockets, memory frequency will be reduced from the original, and system instability or incorrect detection of memory module may be occur. "

^^ Whats that about? I needn't worry about that with the E7400 right? And I like the way in which I won't lose and PCI slots with the P31 ( I know I will be using only one but still .. ). Is that worth the extra ~1k? And some say it OC's better. Its also an ATX board, meaing that it will fill up my cabby better :) .

And RoBoGhost, did he quote you that price directly? Because the prices listed at lynx is 2723+4%tax+shipping.

Oh well.

After considering future upgrades as well as my current purchases ( 650Tx .. ) ..I have decided to up my budget go with the TPower I45 ( local dealer @ 7k ) with eyes closed.

When you look at it. The current newegg price for it is $159.99 . Therefore when I get it for 7k -> its like Rs. 43.75 per USD, which is GOOD!

I hope its worth it!
