i am considering to finally move from xp to windows 7..
can anyone tell me the cheapest way to buy windows 7 legally:S
i saw the$19 post, but its for students..
i dont mind downloading a copy, not necessary to have the DVD!

i'm in same boat as you.

you will have to wait till oct-nov till windows 7 gets launched here officially. might retail for around 8-10k approx. hopefully they should give some discount for early birds.

also to move from xp to win 7 you need to do full install cant upgrade.

LOL :P was tempted to tell yo u to buy off the footpaths of "Nehru Place" but Yeah ! Have to wait until we get an official confirmation .

For XP owners I read somewhere that it will be for 119$ [ Home Premium]

if you really want a genuine one then be prepared to pay.

Salluks,

If you have a TechNet Plus or MSDN Plus subscription you have access to download Windows 7 RTM and receive 10 product activation keys. To learn more about a TechNet plus subscription, please go here: TechNet Plus Subscription & Steve Rose | Media | TechNet Edge

Also, if you are planning on purchasing Windows 7 when it is released it may be helpful to know you don't have to wait until October to reserve your copy of Win 7! You can pre-order your copy of Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Professional today. For more information, see the Windows 7 Pre-Order offer page here: Windows 7 Pre-Order Offer

^ it might help to add its only for US citizens.

And besides, i think, there's something in the EULA that says that product bought for one country is valid only for that country.

and OP being in India, he wouldn't receive the support from Microsoft if he were to get this after preordering.
