Well just a simple question, any idea where i can get small / medium size ear tips for the in the ear type of earphones?? Do they sell them separately and if yes where will i get good quality ones??
TIA

^ For which earphones ? If you want some really good high end tips get the Comply T400 foams or Sony Hybrid silicons :).

How much would the above ones cost? Not looking for something too highend, got the sony ericsson HPM-70 earphones now so something that will do the job will be fine....would the choice of the eartips make a big difference in the sound??

Is the Sony Hybrid available in India? I called the local Sony World and they had no idea. I found one on eBay, but $9 + shipping for the one pair I'd use out of them still a bit high :)

As far as I've read,

are generally used for getting a comfortable fit and/or change the sound signature a bit. I'd also be interested in knowing if they are available locally. May be a GO? ;)

Edit: Shures are washable and can last some time. Comply actually is said to last only 2-3 weeks. No idea about Sony Hybrids, but they could last a bit long.

^ If there is a GO for the comply T-400s and Sony hybrids ,I am definitely interested if we get it a good price :)

@OP for sony ericcson IEMs you could try to arrange the EP-630 stock ear tips (open a WTB thread on TE :P), they should fit the HPM-70.

This may be a bit of a off-topic. However,...

Another interesting IEM Accessory is: Phonak Silicone Ear Guides.

Going by what dfkt at abi says, they are very comfortable. Would be useful if the ear guides are either not bundled (RE0) or clunky (Eterna - from the photos seen here) :)

My friend in Singapore has got them for me (now it is out of stock). I should be getting them by next week. Would like to try it personally for a few days before suggesting to anybody else.

@Faheem,

Shure Olives and Comply foams should be available at Jaben, I guess. But Sony Hybrids seem to be difficult to find. May be it's time for a GO if enough people are interested.

Well i guess the best route would be to buy the 1st copy set that are easily available for around Rs 200 and use the ear tips of that...or maybe even the cheaper chinese IEMS and use their eartips? Do just the eartips make a significant difference in sound quality??

^ I can't say for sure. But, if you want to go the Chinese IEM way, you can pick-up IEMs for about a USD if you look for it.

You go for a different set of tips because

  • Your ears do not get a good seal with any of the stock tips
  • You do not like the harshness in high frequency or want to cut off a bit of the "boom" in bass
  • Lost the stock tips that fit your ear :ashamed:

The tips I've mentioned are used for "modding" by people at head-fi and hence it's likely that we would get similar results with it.

The too cheap Chinese IEM tips or the duplicate "Sony replacement tips" they sell on eBay may do it, since everything these days are made at Chinese factories. But, they would lack the quality control the original products impose and well... it could infect ears too :)

People use one of their other IEM tips - like Ety, UE, SoundMagic, RE0 etc., to get a comfort fit. That should be the first thing people with multiple IEMs try.

Shures may appear costly @ $4 a pair. But the life they provide is pretty good. You could "de-core" or expand them to fit your IEM. They are washable and hence have a long life.

Comply foams are over-priced for their life of 2-3 weeks. But foams could tame down certain frequencies and change sonic characteristics. Besides, people use it in combo with olives to tune the sound sometimes.

Sony Hybrids again are over-priced because they do not offer single size packs (like Small/Medium), but an assortment of sizes (SS, S, M and L) - out of which only one will fit you. But they seem to provide a good seal for some IEMs.

All the above is based only on reading head-fi and not on experience....

Well a couple of my friends have the duplicate sony ericsson IEMS and the tips fit and i dont feel any difference in the sound or the fit for that matter though the sony ones have got a rubbery texture whereas the duplicate are more plasticky. Also got a pair of the Saiyo earphones from Amarbir and dont like the fit of the stock eartips at all. Very uncomfortable. Infact i tried with the sony tips also and still not that comfortable, the design of the earphones itself is quite weird so finding it hard to keep them from falling off.....any suggestions???
