Sorry for the Hi-Jack

I too am looking for an SSD albeit a 120/128 gb one. Will be used in my laptop. Dell Vostro 3700. I think it has SATA 2 so I know I won't get full speeds. Any Idea how the M4 and Vertex 4 are with SATA 2?

Also, out of the two which one do you recommend. The M4 is 500 bucks more expensive than the Vertex 4.

Even though there seem to be cheaper options. I am guessing that going for either of these because of the Marvel Controllers is definitely worth spending the 20% extra than the cheaper ones (Force 3, Agility 3)

Saiyan was looking at both as well, and he found that most reviews/benchmarks show the Vertex 4 has higher write speeds but the M4 has better read speeds. For normal use, better read speeds are preferred, so the M4 would be the right choice.

Marvel controllers, i.e. M4.
Vertex 4 uses a Marvell too, so he's confused over which Marvell to get.

Whoa..I refreshed the other thread 5-6 times and thought the mods went bezerk and deleted my posts!! Thanks to whoever did this :)

The Vertex 4 is for 7.7K and has 5 yrs warranty OCZ Vertex 4 128 GB SSD | OCZ Vertex 4 128 GB SSD in India | Buy OCZ Vertex 4 128 GB SSD

The M4 on the other hand is for 8150 with 3 yr warranty Crucial 128GB m4 SSD | 128GB SSD | SSD Technology | SSD Cost

I guess the Vertex 4 is probably the better deal. Also god forbid one needs to send the drive in for repairs, how does one proceed with the RMA for drives bought at OnlySSD? Couldn't seem to find info on the website!

So I spoke to OnlySSD/Prime and they said they handle the RMA process.

Been doing a bit of reading and they say that updating to the latest firmware for the Vertex 4 solves many issues. So here's what I am thinking.

1. Update drive before installing windows (As some of the updates are definitely destructive)
2. Install Windows 7 Pro Sp1 after slip-streaming updates using RT 7 Lite.

Anyone has any experience using RT 7 Lite?

Why are you complicating things? SSDs have come a long way in the past couple of years. Just buy the drive and use it like you would any regular hdd.

Yeah go ahead and update the firmware before you install windows etc. Won't hurt

make sure bios is set to ahci mode too
