Hey all,
We are Planning to retire our whirlpool semi auto and buy new front loader.

We already have siemens dishwasher. So that is one consideration and looking for deciding new machine.

Looking for your suggestions guys.

Don't want any Chinese manufactured unit.

Thanks in advance.

Any specific reason for a front loading washing machine? If given a choice I prefer the top loading one. We had the whirlpool earlier but after switching to Sharp theres no looking back. Overall a great machine and consumes less power and water. And its not manufactured in China. It comes from Thailand. Hence, our experience with sharp has been great and would suggest it as the first choice.

Using ifb senorita sx for nearly a year... No problem n good service...

+1 to the wash quality of front loading machines

I have bad experience for IFB.
I was told to replace entire magnetom for simple blown fuse.
So no IFB for me.

Well I do not fully agree with you that front loaders consume less water and provide better wash. Partly true but with advancement in technology, the gap has reduced considerably.
To compensate for a bit higher water consumption, the top loading machine consumes less power. Like the Sharp top loading we have ES-N90 consumes just around 500 watts. When we bought we had compared this to a front loading and that was consuming close to 1500 watts. Not sure if this has reduced. Also on a full load of close to 9 kgs the Sharp uses around 90 litres of water as against around 60-70 litres by the front loading. Finally I am not sure but when we planned to purchase and had compared two things we did not like about the front loading were - they said "preferably" you need to use special detergents for the front loading and second was if there is a power cut it is not easy to remove the clothes from the machine. But someone recently mentioned that some models now have an option to drain the water and remove the clothes. I think do compare and check and let me know your thoughts on the above.

Yes I mentioned that
But someone recently mentioned that some models now have an option to drain the water and remove the clothes.
Hence, now issues remain are , how much power it consumes, how much water it saves and finally does it need special detergents while washing

@OP: Any reason for not considering siemens fully auto WM?Even am in process of buying a new fully auto WM&refrigerator for new apartment..

For WM,when i had arranged for technician to check the prerequisites in my apartment,i asked regarding the detergent,he said cheaper ones like tide, surf can be used but they have more acid which creates some problem with foam detecting system..

I am considering these four so far.

First choice is siemens
Second is Bosch
Third sharp
Fourth is Panasonic.

I already have Siemens dishwasher and overall pleased so considering Siemens again.

You need a special detergent with FL w/m. Or else the detergent will produce lots of bubbles which will damage the machine.

Yeah that's fine.Mom uses surf only.
Any online site to purchase machine ?
I am trying to see whether its available online.
Which site you suggest?

I'm using a LG 5.5Kg front loader for last two years. Switched from a top loader and was amazed with the improvement in wash quality. We use the machine everyday at almost full load. Sometimes twice a day. Touchwood.
We use either Surf or Henko FL detergent which is easily available at any store.
Water consumption is greatly reduced compared to the top loader. Electricity consumption of 1.5KW is only when you use the heater to heat the water.

In my case,
We need seven kg considering this machine will be in use for next 10 yrs and previous whirlpool served us 8yrs.

How is LG quality overall ?

@pratikb: Have you also checked the LG direct drive top loaders? LG also has direct drive in front loaders and the vibration during spinning is reportedly less in direct drive machines. Also, I would like to clarify a few points mentioned in the above posts:

Front Loaders:
1. Many front loaders have a "drain" cycle in which the water is drained out and the door lock is released. But will this cycle work in the event of a power failure because in front loaders, a drain pump drains the water out. Any member using front loader may confirm this.
2. Less foaming detergent has to be used in front loaders. If the foam is excess, the foam will come out from the opening below the detergent drawer.
3. The electrical rating (W) of front loaders is more because of the inbuilt heater. If the heater is not operated, then a front loader will consume almost same electricity as a top loader.

Top Loaders:
1. Less hassle as far as maintenance and operation is concerned, compared to front loaders.
2. If going for a top loader other than Whirlpool, do take one with steel drum and dual water inlet. You'll need warm- hot water for whites atleast.

In general, don't go for machine capacity larger than your need. High capacity machines tend to have long cycle times and even for small loads, they do take up a lot of time.

Inorder to gain more knowledge, you may download user manuals of both top and front loads and go through them. It'll enhance your understanding of the working of these machines.

@prtk: How about a separate thread with pics on your experiences with the Sharp top loader. You are the first user I am coming across in this forum having a Sharp top loader, that too the top end one. Sorry for bothering you :)
