pratikb: Have you also checked the LG direct drive top loaders? LG also has direct drive in front loaders and the vibration during spinning is reportedly less in direct drive machines. Also, I would like to clarify a few points mentioned in the above posts:
Front Loaders:
1. Many front loaders have a "drain" cycle in which the water is drained out and the door lock is released. But will this cycle work in the event of a power failure because in front loaders, a drain pump drains the water out. Any member using front loader may confirm this.
2. Less foaming detergent has to be used in front loaders. If the foam is excess, the foam will come out from the opening below the detergent drawer.
3. The electrical rating (W) of front loaders is more because of the inbuilt heater. If the heater is not operated, then a front loader will consume almost same electricity as a top loader.
Top Loaders:
1. Less hassle as far as maintenance and operation is concerned, compared to front loaders.
2. If going for a top loader other than Whirlpool, do take one with steel drum and dual water inlet. You'll need warm- hot water for whites atleast.
In general, don't go for machine capacity larger than your need. High capacity machines tend to have long cycle times and even for small loads, they do take up a lot of time.
Inorder to gain more knowledge, you may download user manuals of both top and front loads and go through them. It'll enhance your understanding of the working of these machines.

prtk: How about a separate thread with pics on your experiences with the Sharp top loader. You are the first user I am coming across in this forum having a Sharp top loader, that too the top end one. Sorry for bothering you
