I have asked this some time ago and was suggested to have a look at the FiiO amplifiers. Now I am not sure which one of the models to take or what is the difference between them.

So can you guys help suggest the economical model based on the usage that I have mentioned. :head:

do the run of the mill headphone amps like the Fiio E3 offer any significant gain? if they don't, then I think you might need to build a cmoy with some gain
better test a headphone amp with it before buying one
but then again its just a few hundred bucks :P

Do you need an amplifier? I connect my headphones direct to the TV and get a good output. Depends on the Headphone I believe. Not all my headphones work with the TV. The one which works is Bose Quiet Comfort. Check it out before going in for an amplifier.

Alright I have decided to get rid of 30K instead of just few hundreds for the amp.

I am nowhere near an audiophile and the reason that I want to buy a good set of speakers is to enjoy the movies or television series on my TV. Games on my PS3. :D

Right now based on the browsing that I have done I am thinking of the Onkyo 3400 which is available for 27K in Reliance Digital. Have also read that Denon 1312 is equally good.

What I want to know is the following
1. Is the above the best that I can get in the budget that I have specified
2. Should I go for an AVR and get a pair of speakers for now and later go for expansion (though I wonder if I need that at all)
3. Now for the weirdest comparison.. Is the Onkyo good enough to enjoy music. Even if it slightly better than my AL ATP3 then I am satisfied. Which I have a feeling it will be.

I will go for some sort of an audition tomorrow and most likely buy it. I am an impulsive buyer and if I do not get it within a week then I will most likely not buy it. :P

Yeah sounds good, go audition the stuff and if you like it get a pair of front bookshelves for now. Try a mix of music and movies and decide if you like what you hear

Whats the progress? :p
Well I went for this so called audition with no clue of what to pay attention to. The Croma guy tried to woo me with heavy boom boom movie sample like Transformers 3 and some Hindi boom boom music. A small crowd gathered around. I then asked him to put in the pen drive which I had brought along with some songs as that was my only doubt about the speakers. Listened to a few songs and was fairly satisfied with the output considering my initial disclaimer that I am not an audiophile.

I took 5 minutes to contemplate if I should buy this or get a Denon 1613 (of which I don't know the price but should be over 35K for sure). Surely I was not going to spend over 50K on the speaker set having started from a budget of 10K

I am now a fairly satisfied owner of the Onkyo 3400. :yahoo:

Have connected the STB, PS3 to AVR and AVR to TV through HDMI. Have also put in a OFC from TV to AVR for watching USB stuff from TV USB port. Not sure yet if I am getting proper 5.1 signal from STB (it is Tata Sky and not Airtel) as I have not setup the rear speakers yet. Kind of worried about how to wire this without messing up the room.

Quite happy that I can use the headphones and watch stuff on my TV. So much for an inexpensive headphone amplifier that I wanted to buy

I have an onkyo 3300(pretty much same as 3400), hit me up if you have any doubts regarding it.
Sure, thanks. My only doubt so far is that when I connect my laptop to the AVR through HDMI, I don't get any sound. I get the sound when the HDMI is directly connected to my TV. Maybe I will have to check some settings as I didn't have much time to play

kind of missed this thread.
I have the exact same utilities as you do and even I am not an audiophile.
I bought the Logitech Z906 and connected the output of the TV to Z906 via OFC.
I connect my laptop to the Z906 via an OFC (Z906 has 3 digital audio inputs + 3 analog).
The speakers are good and serve the purpose.
My STB, XBOX and PC is connected to the TV via HDMI.
Anyways... 3400 is also a pretty good system. The only reason I did not go for a full AVR was that Z906 served my purpose and I did not see scope for any expansions.
Also going in for an AVR meant more power consumption, more heat and more space.

Congrats on the purchase. Post some pics of how you have placed ur setup and ur impressions about the 3400 while gaming.

Sure will do that once I have spent some days with the setup. Rather once I have actually done the setup as I desire. Which includes getting a cabinet made for the receiver as it does not fit my TV cabinet. :(

I also went with the AVR was because I could always upgrade the front speakers to something better in future should I ever feel the itch to do so.
