Hi,

i have been using nokia symbian based phone for 10 yrs and i am sick of it currently using n73 which is pathetically slow and lazy, i hope android will be fast and serve me well, so i have zeroed two android based phone SE xperia x10 mini, and HTC tatoo, i don't want to invest more money on phone, 16-17 is enough for me, my primary use will be chatting, texting and surfing the net as back up when my main connection goes down, please suggest all you mobile gurus and android experienced user, are application on android free?
Thanks.

I recently bought an HTC Legend and I am rather pleased with it (the phone and the OS). definitely a huge step up from Symbian. There are many free applications on Android and a lot of these are very good.

I don't know about the Xperia Mini but my uncle bought himself a Tattoo last week. It runs an older version of Android (1.6) and I am not sure if it can be updated. I found the resistive touch screen much harder to type on than the capacitive touch screen of the Legend but it was much better than the resistive touch screen of my previous phone, a Nokia 5800.

Chatting / Texting / Surfing the net might be hard on the resistive touch screen but your mileage may vary. Scrolling through lists and dialing numbers was good enough though.

In 17k (first hand), you'll get -

Samsung Galaxy Spica - 12.8k
Samsung Galaxy - 14k
HTC Tatoo - 15k
LG GW620 - 14.5k
Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini - 15k
Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini PRO - 17k

Good luck finding a Galaxy Spica or Galaxy :P. The LG is available but you need to look a bit for it. Also, the Galaxy Spica is the only Android phone to pack Android 2.1. The Tatoo and X10s will get it later on.

I recommend the Sony Ericsson X10 Mini.

Maybe you shou;d try the X6, I hear with the Capacitative Screen, the touch is nice and responsive also the bundle is one of the best I have seen at that price.

How much is the HTC Legend now? Does it have 2.1 or Froyo installed out of the box?
Legend costs 22.5k now.

comes with Android 2.1

will get Froyo in Q3 (July-September)

no match when it comes to build quality. My nephew threw this phone from bed few times and it's just ......

Inside 15k-16k, if you want touch phone, either search for Spica or get Nokia X6. Like H2O said, it's a VFM phone with ample storage.

Nah I don't want the X6. I already have a 5800 and X6 is just a camera and memory upgrade to be honest. And I'm tired of Symbian! Android for sure.

Your sure Legend will get Froyo in Q3?

And what about the Nexus One? It's proccessor is definitely better than Legend. Is it worth taking over the legend?

Nexus One. Costs aroune 30k

no official support in India

bigger display and better processing speed

no.1 in getting OS upgrades (already getting Froyo)

vanilla Android (might look dull next to Sense UI)

I would suggest Samsung Galaxy S over N1 coz GS is better spec wise, it costs 28k and is supported in India.

^but Samsung is notorious for terrible UIs and improper support / updates. The Desire is worth buying over the Nexus One. Same hardware + Sense UI + good support from HTC.

The Legend is fantastic too, even with slower hardware.

Trust me, I felt kind of ashamed to use my Legend next to GS. so, do NOT compare these two. Desire, yes. but this phone is not yet released and there is no support currently in India.

In short, if you have used HTC phone with SenseUI before, stick to HTC for new phones. If you have never used a HTC phone before, then GS does make lot of sense.

i'd say go for the legend..

it looks fantastic, packs a nice 3.2'' screen and according to the reviews and comments of people, it seems like a safe deal..

check out the forums for threads on legend..

u may find a lot of useful info..

Seems like Samsung is not going to abandon Galaxy S so easily. There a tonne of variations of this phone being released for various operators in US and many of these go further than just re-branding. Some of the variations even have added the missing led flash, different design and the Epic 4G has a QWERTY keypad.

In Korea alone this phone sold 2Lakh units in 10 days.

However has desibond reported in another thread, The PC Software and PC connectivity seem to be a real PITA.

Oh no, I wasn't comparing the Galaxy S and the Legend. There's no contest. It was more about Desire vs Galaxy S in real world usage (in India).
