So somebody is coming back from US and the person can bring me something. So i am wondering why not a HU as i am picking up a new car. So which one should it be. I am looking for something which has a AUX and USB in. Not really a fan of double din HU but if something is good and VFM why not. Will need something for which a Stering remote control is easily available. Is it wise to get one from US. I am making a strict budget of $200 or so. Don't wanna spend anything above Rs10K for something real slick.

Preffered Brand Choices:

Pioneer

Clarion

Alpine :P

Let me know.

Switch.

Switchyboi, this is just my POV so feel free to draw your own interpretations

A- Entry level HUs , esp from Pioneer tend to be cheaper in Karol Bagh than the US prices although high end HUs tend to be considerably more expensive

B- Unless you are planning a setup with Time alignment, there is no appreciable benefit from a high end HU apart from some addl. visual jazz

C- As for SQ, the output from even an entry level discrete amp + basic HU as source will be better than a stand alone high end HU since the Amps on most HUs tend to be very similar (actually the same within a particular brand)

Given A, B, C, may I suggest you get a basic Pioneer HU + amp (optional) and spend the greenbacks on something like a Mio C320 (available for ~100) (or a 520 if you want phone integration) that you can use as the source for your HU + GPS

not only would it get you better SQ but also more usable features for he same cost

Can you plz elaborate a li'l more on "that" :P

You see i am a n0ob at this :ashamed:

Amazon.com: Clarion DXZ385USB CD/MP3/WMA/AAC Receiver with CeNET Control, Front Panel USB Port, Satellite Radio Ready: Electronics

This clarion was selling for 65$ with free shipping in newegg (this model is phased out now, that might be the reason). Now its not available for newegg.

Amazon was selling it with free super saver shipping for 80$, now its available from third party vendors in Amazon for about 80$. (this is what bottle is suggesting :P)

This model has front USB in. It even supports ipod usb in. All the other manufacturers make you get their proprietary ipod interface cable by paying extra money. (for alpine I paid about 1.5k for the cable alone)

This model also has 6 pre outs, if you plan to use amp/s in future.

Me and bottle were planning to order this HU when it was for 65$ in newegg. But Indian credits cards are not accepted there, before we could find a way to pay to newegg, the offer gone. :(

80$ in Amazon is still a good price for the features this HU has got. It works out to 4k Rs only.

a pioneer HU is very cheap, and you can get hold of a steering wheel remote for ~1k, but SQ wise, they suck . My choices would be Alpine ( great sq, but not very VFM and low on features, but very good build) Kenwood ( right combo of SQ, features etc, and the 5039 is available grey for about the same price as the pioneers in delhi). JVC EXAD's are also nice

Go for Alpine 9887 or Pioneer Premier P880RS, Eclipse 7200 MKII.

All are awesome HUs.

Buget ke watt lagjaye gee.....

There is one clarion HU for around 10k which has TA also...HariSingh(greenhorn) might help on this....:)

My friend got the same Clarion hu earlier was using Pioneer....difference of night and day I would say.

Pioneer is not the same what it was earlier.

Personally, spending anything over 5K on a HU is a crime unless it has TA

if you can live w/o TA, I'd rather pick an independent source (PC/ hacked PND) + basic HU (just as a glorified volume knob + radio) + Amp

I beg to differ, HU does make a lot of difference. Ofcourse the remaining equipment should also be god enough to complement it.

Also AFAIK, there are hardly any HUs available out there which are both cheap and sport TA. Most of the HUs with TA are high end ones and are expensive.
