guys which which will be best to use in fedora 8 for c programming
1. kde development
2. gnome
3. eclipse

??

actually in college they have shifted from the turbo c++ compiler of windows to fedora 8 , now they make us do programming in vi editor and compiler on terminal , LOL how crap is that you cant properly edit in vi editor properly (no colors shown ,etc etc) .. i suggested them to use a developer instead as debugging and tracing will be easy ..

i have myself used kde one , but i just wanna know which will be best and ofcourse easy for other students also to handle ..
ALSO guys , there is no "kde/gnu/eclipse" in the applications ..i guess they didn't select it during installation time ..
what is the method to install those applications via the cd ??

Thanks !!

vi(m) is a VERY powerful editor if you learn how to use it properly

Havent used fedora ever, but in Ubuntu gedit + gcc + ddd works best for me

i know its powerful but not user friendly for newcomers , everytime someone has to enter something he has to press'i' then to edit press 'esc' and ,etc etc
not efficient ..

forget ubuntu , what to use in fedora among above three ?

Most of the major softwares are developed using your so called crappy terminal, it is better you get used to them. These gives you much better control and understanding of the entire thing that you are doing.

KDE and Gnome are two of the most popular graphical desktop environments available for use in OS s based on Linux. It has no relation as such with Eclipse or C programming.
Eclipse is an IDE like Turbo C++
It is available for Linux. Search for it in the repository.
Are the computers connected to the internet?
If yes then installing applications will be easy but if not, then you will have to use the terminal.

vim along with ctags. once you get used to it, you wont like anything else.

The best programming environment for programming in Linux should be Nokia QT.
Download Qt, the cross-platform application framework — Qt - A cross-platform application and UI framework

Why you are using Fedora 8 when latest version is Fedora 15.

because the teachers and maintainers are noob and dont know anything and you cant argue with them ..
