my uncle wants to buy a digital camera between 10-15 k..max budget..

it's his first digital camera..and he's not much into photography..and all..

in short not a pro..with all different settings.

main priorities :

good quality picture..

easy to use..not much high end settings and all

simple auto settings point and shoot.

i think the two best cams that ppl here have recommended are

camera..

canon A710 IS IS- Sify Shopping - Canon Digital Camera - S3IS - 6.2 MP + 1 GB YES SD Card + Camera Case

and

Canon S3IS (looks quiet like professional and dont think he will find it easy to use a DSLR.. what do u ppl say ?)

mostly i will tell him to get it from Sify shopping ..due there extremely low prices ..as well as 1yr warranty(though not from canon but vendor warranty)

also ..any particular reason not to go.for Sony ?? he had visited Vijay sales in mumbai and was telling me that he found the sony W80 picture quality better than some canon model mostly (570 IS )...also if u think theres some other model which suits his needs do tell me..

need quick replies and suggestions...want to give him a call by tomorrow..

Go with the Canon S3 IS, its one of the best cameras.
Also you can try Sony H2 (this one is also as good as canon S3 IS), this one is same as S3 IS.
 
if u feel he wont like using features etc on the S3 get the 570IS instead of the 710IS. the 710IS ur simply payin 2k more for 2X more zoom n an older processor :P

710IS has the older DIGIC II while 570IS has DIGIC III wit better n more advanced auto focusin features etc (such as face recognition) For now, ur better off with the 570IS :D
 
hmmm..anymore suggestions ??

how is the SONY W80 dont know why but my mama has devloped a liking towards the W80 and is still insisting on getting the same if its good.

he was asking if the canon models that ive recommended have features like

Double Anti-Blur System

D-Range Optimization

HD Slide Show with Music etc etc.

i guess ...canon must be having something similar or better features..

do tell me..i need to justify and prove to him why the canon models are better than ..Sony..!!
 
Marketing gimmick of Sony. If you want plain good pictures go for a Canon. techie_007 is right.
570IS instead of the 710IS is a better alternative to an older individual for his first cam. S3IS is certainly a better cam with advanced features.. I doubt your uncle will all need that. If he is a techie, you can get it.
 
if you are looking for a compact cam u can consider these

1) panasonic lumix dmc tz3 ( 7.2mp, 10x optical zoom, 3" lcd,28mm lens)..the downsides are its low internal memory of abt 12mb and lack of usb 2.0 support. price arnd 16k.

2) sony cybershot dsc t100 ( 8mp, 5x opt zoom, 3" lcd) price 17k

3) kodak v705 (7MP, 5x optical, 23mm wide-angle lens) - 15k

Those are just marketing terms referring to standard camera features..each company has their own terms to impress customers and make the camera stand out ;)

Just look at the 570IS canon website n u ll find 4-5 features not mentioned on the SONY :P tell those to ur uncle ;)

AFAIK: Double blur is just a fancy reference to IS (image stabilization) n optical IS is the best n the canon has it (the sony probably also does, but just pointin out that its nothing unique :D ) tell ur uncle that these are just gimmicks ;)

canon will also have picture viewing n slideshow funtions i guess. but no one ever uses them re :P tell me, will ur uncle bother creating a slideshow with pictures n sound on his computer then transfer them to the camera to show to ppl on that tiny screen? ;) so nz moot point:P

n no in the mood to google for d whatever optimization but 100% (yup, 100 :P ) its just a fancy name for some std or even useless feature possibly ;) just tell ur uncle that out of he two, canon is the specialised camera making firm :P (IMO, sony makes god cameras too..i just personally prefer canon ;) so ppl dont flame me for not goin for sony :P )

everything is on the upper end of his price range wen he can get wat he needs with a 9k 570IS. nothin better for a first cam :D IMO of course :bleh:
 
ohk then i will tell him to go with 570IS or 710IS..either of them..

should 1 gb of memory be enough or 2 gb for.moderate use and few movie clips ..??

also ..the camera case and the 1gb memory card supplied by these dealers on sify mall genuine ??

would be a great choice to go with 570IS and that too for mere 9k:hap2:
 
the card n case should be ok. But if ur in doubt, get only the camera. AFAIK, thats available too. U ll get it cheaper. Spend the cash u save to get a card and case locally...no isues ;)
 
ohk..my uncle has ordered the canon A710 IS from sifymall with 1 gb memory card and camera case..for RS.12855 including shipping..

now he wants to which rechargeable batteries and charger set to get for the camera..

also are the batteries supplied with the camera rechargeable ??

no..the batteries with the camera are weak test n throw variety :P

get any good rechargables of at least 2000mAh and higher. Try sony world or photofast for good sony rechargables :D
