Looking to replace my Tata Sky with a STB having DVR.
Only concern is best video recording quality and capability.
Do tell me which one you are using for recording TV shows and whats the size of the video file, resolution, container, codecs etc for a 30 min SD TV show, and HD TV show

am using tata sky HD+ DVR. i can't tell you details about vid reso, container, codecs, size of the vid file, etc., but quality of recording is the same what you watch in real-time. its the same thing that gets recorded. if am correct, the capacity of its internal HDD is 500 GB.

and AFAIK, no DTH service-provider currently provides you with a DVR whose HDD could be connected to the PC for space-management. tata sky had sometime back showed signs of allowing that, but did not follow up. if there's one DTH service-provider that does allow this, i would like to know from some member here :)

2 Kilroyquasar :- Yeah, i also saw that on forums but why do you need to manage the disk anyway. I mean, you record a show and then move it to PC and delete it from the STB HDD, so its really not an issue to mange the files

All the DTH STB are mostly same, But Reliance have much better quality compare to others.

yes, you could say that as well! that's what i meant by 'space-management', which i can't seem to understand why it hasn't been applied to STBs till now.

also, i can't say that i agree to Kakahi's view, since i don't have a personal experience, but there are umpteen threads on HFV on similar topic, for e.g., the following ones (and i have not come around the name of reliance many times in the threads over there), so not very sure. though not very specific to your query, but you could get a general idea from them, so you may have a look:

Best dth hd provider in india - airtel vs videocon vs tata sky

Which DTH HD provider should i go for?

Reliance DTH HD in 1080p and 250 channels upscaled to HD.... Any users?

Reliance digital to provide 250ch with HD LIKE quality

P.S. - If you feel someone's post has assisted you a bit, like Kakahi's post above, you could also 'like' their post(s) and/or add to their 'rep' as well ;)

You cannot transfer the recorded file to your PC. I mean you can move the encrypted file but can't play it because it requires hardware level decoding based on the smart card in your STB. So there is no way of knowing the bit rate etc. of the files.
