Storage Solutions Which dvd rw should i buy?

Hmm thanks, as in Mumbai Mirror it came that the dw 1800 is for 2.1k etc...

Lets see will pick up either the dw 1800 or the Sony AWG170A.

Build quality wise I believe Benq's are pretty decent, Sony I know are excellent. Will just pick up whichever is cheaper nxt week. Thanx

Hmm Benqs were not available at Lammington road, LG drives were available but I was sceptic.

Picked up a Sony DRU830A box packed, is based on Samsung firmware, good enuff for me. Price : 2100

Yeah, I know but the dealer said Sony has a better after sales support, and I have been having a real bad luck with hardware recently.

Lol but the market are flooded with 18x writers now.. Benq is more or less absent.

err I'm getting locally Sony AWG170A [2150 bucks], but i want Asus 1608PS3 , i have to wait 3-4 days for it.
The wait worth it?

ok guys the Asus 1608P3S is available "its inside a green box, weird indeed", costs 2300 bucks??
what say??
worth it?

^ BTW the LG's dont support error scanning, right? Which drives do support error scanning (apart from the Benq's)? Also if one were to go for a single drive and needed error scanning as well - which one would be the optimal choice?

Edit (some more queries):

I also believe there's a difference between DVD+Rs and DVD-Rs in that DVD+R is supposedly the superior format? So should one stick to DVD+R primarily or is DVD-R fine too?

Also, most drives these days tend to support both DVD+/-R . But do drives tend to favour one format more over the other or something like that?

1) Nope, LGs do not support error scanning. The best you can do with them is run a transfer rate test (TRT).

2)Lite-On and Plextor support "accurate" error scanning. Pioneer and NEC drives also do error scans, but they aren't very accurate.

3) Both formats are the same now, in terms of support from DVD-video drives and DVD-ROM drives. Just get discs from a reputable manufacturer, eg. TY, Verbatim, Sony, and you'll be fine.

Bhairav , bought LG GSA-H12N :D . should I use MoserBaer discs or what? I'm afraid its difficult to source TY, Verbatim dvds so limited options here .....
