hey guys, lookin to get a ebook reader for my sister, coz shes been reading alot on the itouch 3rd gen but i thought to get her something bigger and light on the eyes and more ebook oriented but since i dont know what to get or where to begin lookin for the help here!!

3 that seem to be most popular r the kindle, nook and kobo (anything else that im missing on please post here) which one do i get?? which is the best way to get them, pro / cons if any of the reader u post, most should allow easy uploads of ebooks and support decent amount of formats. battery life?? help guys!! :ashamed:

i would recommend the kindle 3 wifi over any other model as long as the reader is not really inclined to touch screen based device. nook touch in case you need a touch device. there are sony devices available, but they are hopelessly overpriced.

kindle will provide support even in India. My sister's kindle went bad within a month of buying and amazon shipped a replacement direct to India. Note this wont work for kindle with special offers as it is a US only model.

I would recomend getting it from shopyourworld.com as it usually is the cheapest you can get. sud be about 8.2k for kindle wifi and 7.1k for kso. both of them will be eligible for a 5% discount if paid by icici or hdfc bank card. You can always declare as gift making the custom duty zero :P

For many, the format support of kindle is a issue as it will support only mobi files. Pdf also work but just barely. As it is a fixed format layout, the entire page is either displayed in the six inch screen or you need to keep on zooming in parts both of which are highly inconvenient.

with either of eink devices, the battery should last a better part of month as long as wifi is off.

I would suggest the new nook touch, its got good reviews and though the underlying eink screen is the same as Kindle 3 the touch and android does give some added flexibility. I got a quote of around Rs 9500 for the touch from shopandship/iccworld.

thanks guys confused between the two now, nook vs kindle! which one to pick? and whyyy? nook does android too?? which will be easier on the eyes but?

as far as ease on eyes, both are exactly the same. There is no difference in the screen. Andriod on a eink screen might give you emails and stuff via wifi if you are desperate. but even though they might manage to get angry birds to run on it, it wont be much of fun. Yeah, new format handling on the device using some other bookreading app would be interesting. so that is one advantage to nook.

the only real difference and the point where you chose is, do you or do you not prefer touchscreen. If you like touchscreen, then nook the answer else, if you are ok with a normal key based interface, I would say kindle is better.

Kindle will provide support in India for kindle wifi/3g. International support wont be available for Kindle with special offers.

Price wise, kindle wifi = nook simple touch, but KSO 25 dollars cheaper.
