i'm in the market to buy gaming headphones. i've shortlisted these
hyperx cloud core
steelsereis siberia 9h (used)
audio technica ath m30x

my budget is around 3-4k. and i need a compatible sound card . m going with xonar dg but have heard a lot of complains with the software so want to buy external dac/amp. so how will it be to buy fiio k1?

I have the cloud core and can vouch for them. Ask me anything you wanna know about them
It has been some time since I did my homework on gaming headphones but I pretty sure core are better than m30x (don't know anything about 9h)

I have checked price online for steelsereis siberia 9h it will cost you above 8K. But if you are looking for gaming headset under 4k than you can buy SteelSeries siberia 100. It's is a lightweight gaming headset with over-ear design and omnidirectional microphone.
It's very comfortable, the cord length is decent, and the sound quality is about as good as you could expect for the price range. The built in microphone is also designed in a way that keeps it from being in the way all the time, which can be a nice change from the big boom mics that can fall down or be troublesome when you're not intending to use them.

Go for Samson SR850. Much better than HD681 that I own.

Superb sound quality, clarity & soundstage. Has velour comfort pads. Costs just 3K in snapdeal.

Just wanted to say that "gaming" headsets are overrated. Are they good? Yes maybe. Just overrated because we believe that anything with a "gaming" tag is best for gaming even better than non-gaming ones. Often they are just standard headsets with mics stuck on them. I still use the original Corsair Vengeance V1300 headset. I got it at a very good price so no complaints there. The headband is a little too tight though so it gets a little warm in summer. Its great in winter. Mic is very good but I don't think that it cancels noise. People on the other side could hear tiny noise made on my side. Pads are vinyl and can wear out if not used with care. But you can change this with the cloth/leather accessory.

Rants aside, i dunno about the ones in your list but if you want a good headset start from the Kingston HyperX Cloud II. While this particular headset is not a Kingston original its OEM is the Takstar Pro 80 which got high positive feedback from critics. The Hyper X Cloud II is just a Takstar Pro 80 + mic. It is also more expensive but will be worth it.

I second this. Take good care of the vinyl pads though.
